Second Childhood; Five
PG-13; EunHae; Fluff/Romance
They met just as little boys do, over action figurines and imaginary explosions. What they don't expect is for it to last.

'I'm going to throw up.'

'Hyukjae, I - '

'No I really am legitly going to throw up right here right now, all over your carpet. Watch me. I'm going to throw up Donghae.'

'Hyukjae, stop - '

'I'm losing my mind,' Hyukjae fisted his hands in his hair and tugged hard, crying out in mild shock at the strength he had exerted. Removing his hands from his hair, he glared at them momentarily like they were the ones responsible for his mental turmoil and settled for clenching and unclenching them multiple times in an attempt to work off the stress. 'Why did we agree to do this?'

Donghae sighed, ever the long-suffering boyfriend. After a couple of weeks of sneaking around their parents, Donghae had finally mustered up the courage to discuss the issue of telling their family with Hyukjae.

Surprisingly, Hyukjae had taken it well. Donghae knew his family would be supportive, especially his mother. His mother had always been there for him, and he couldn't imagine a situation in which she would turn her back on him. But then again, it didn't mean that he wasn't terrified of coming out of the closet. Coming out to your friends was a whole different thing. Family knew you inside and out and they were the ones that could hurt you the most.

Considering the fact that Hyukjae had changed his mind four times during the week regarding whether to tell his mom or not, Donghae figured Hyukjae was already relatively calm this time around. But they were meeting their mothers in thirty minutes and he would really appreciate it if Hyukjae would calm the fuck down.

Standing up and crossing his room to where Hyukjae was currently pacing, Donghae yanked Hyukjae's arms to his sides and kissed him full on the mouth. Hyukjae fought him for all of two seconds before his eyes slid shut and he began kissing Donghae back, falling into his usual habit of massaging Donghae's lips with his before pressing small kisses to his lips and then repeating the process. After trusting Hyukjae not to fight him anymore, Donghae released his hands, winding them around Hyukjae's thin waist and pressing up against him. Hyukjae sighed wistfully, bringing his hands up to cup Donghae's chin, kissing him again deeply before letting him go.

'Sorry,' Hyukjae whispered against him and Donghae fought to keep a smile off his face.

'That you're neurotic? I already knew that you were crazy when I agreed to date you,' Donghae laughed before sobering up. 'But seriously, calm down. It's going to be okay, yes?'

'I know, I know, it's just - ' Hyukjae closed his eyes. 'What if my mom hates me?'

'She could never hate you! And even if she does, what do you think my mom is going to do? Kick you out of the house?'

Hyukjae winced at the honest words. Donghae was so matter of fact, but didn't that show that he had absolute trust in what his parents and Hyukjae's parents would do? While he wouldn't think he'd survive it if his mother kicked him out of the house, he was glad to have options if that unfortunate incident were to happen. The depressing thought was dismissed and he shook himself mentally. He sighed and rested his forehead on Donghae's shoulder, wishing that things would simply go back to being easy like the day Donghae had first slept over.

They had awoken blushing and shy to find that some time in the middle of the night, Hyukjae had thrown his leg over Donghae's waist, cuddling him snug against him. Their clothes were rumpled with sleep and Donghae had been mildly mortified to find his hand resting on the tiny patch of skin that Hyukjae's wifebeater had ridden up to reveal. He had wrenched his hand back as if burnt, hoping that he had done it before Hyukjae had noticed. But of course, Hyukjae had simply grinned at him and stretched lazily like a cat, the top riding up just that little bit more.

'Good morning,' Hyukjae was beaming down at him like a Cheshire cat and Donghae smacked him reflexively.

Hyukjae yelped. 'What was that for!'

'For whatever you were smiling about,' Donghae retorted, turning his face to let the cool pillowcase subdue his flush.

Hyukjae chuckled lightly. 'I was smiling because I was happy to wake up next to you.' Leaning closer, he prodded Donghae's nose with a cold finger. 'Did you think I was thinking of something else? Something dirty perhaps?' The corners of his mouth inched upwards in the tiniest smirk and Donghae pushed his face away embarrassedly.

'I was not!'

Hyukjae let out another laugh, turning Donghae to face him and pressing his lips to Donghae's forehead. 'You're so cute.'

'And you suck.'

The smirk came faster this time. 'Not sure that I'll be the one sucking.'

Donghae had to pause for awhile before the implication of the statement hit him and he squeaked, grabbing the pillow and smashing it head on into Hyukjae's face. He continued hitting Hyukjae, his face on fire and his eyes scrunched shut, and his boyfriend gasped for air while he laughed. Donghae knew without touching his cheeks that his face was red. He wasn't innocent per se, who was really with the internet these days but he hadn't really thought of their relationship in those terms yet and he would appreciate it if his boyfriend (he emphasised each mental word here with a smack to Hyukjae's face) would - stop - teasing - him!

Hyukjae grabbed his arms, finally halting the attacks. He really did love teasing Donghae, the reactions he got were the best but it was their first morning together as boyfriends after all. 'Okay don't hit me anymore! I'm sorry I'm sorry, forgive me?' He mock pouted and watched as Donghae visibly softened, pouting as well.

'Don't do that.'

'I'll be good now. Can I have my morning kiss?'

Donghae spluttered. He didn't know how Hyukjae could be so cavalier and shameless about this sorta things when it all felt so new to him but he barely had more time to ponder the issue before Hyukjae leaned in slowly, kissing him softly and sweetly. The kiss was short and Donghae had hardly responded before Hyukjae pulled away and smiled.

'Good morning.'

'Hyukjae? Hyukjae?' He was snapped out of his memories by Donghae shaking his arm. 'They're here.'

Hyukjae winced and pulled Donghae with him as they prepared to leave Donghae's room. It was do or die time now.

But he was not letting go of Donghae's hand.

He cast a look towards the Iron Man figurine, slightly battered but still sitting in a prime position on Donghae's table and remembered the years in which he carried the familiar toy, wondering and hoping that one day, he would find the little boy who had looked up to him.

Hyukjae smiled.

-

Both mothers seemed to move in unison as they eyed Donghae then Hyukjae on the couch, eyes moving form one person to the other and then back again. It was quite worrying actually, and coupled with the situation at hand, Hyukjae thought that it was downright terrifying.

The only thing that was keeping him from running was Donghae's hand in his, soft skin with a firm grip anchoring him here to the living room at this point of time, reminding him that he was there. Donghae was faring only slightly better than him. His mother had barely said anything either, merely asking when their relationship had begun and how serious they were in the relationship.

Hyukjae had finally spoken up then, insisting that they were not mucking about, he really did like Donghae.

Then silence had fallen.

'Okay can you guys say something? You're scaring me,' Donghae pleaded. 'Mom please?'

Donghae's mother sighed. 'Donghae do you take your mother for a fool?'

Donghae stared. 'What?'

'I've known for weeks. So has Hyukjae's mom.'

Hyukjae stilled and he felt Donghae tense up beside him. Squeezing Donghae's hand comfortingly, Hyukjae swallowed hard before asking. 'And?'

Hyukjae's mother leaned forward. 'And we were wondering why it took you two so long to tell us. Did you think we would disapprove?'

A wave of relief washed through him and Hyukjae let out a strangled laugh. He wasn't going to be disowned or reprimanded after all. He slumped visibly into the comfortable couch and felt the tension in his shoulders ebb away.

'I can't believe you did this to us,' Donghae whined next to him, mainly directed at his mother of course and the two parents burst out into laughter, ignoring the wide-eyed stares that their sons were giving them.

'Oh you two are so cute, trying to be all serious and all when we've known for ages and were simply waiting for you guys to tell us,' Donghae's mother wiped her eyes and exchanged exuberant hi fives with Hyukjae's mother.

'I was right,' Dongae was still wide-eyed. 'My mother is crazy.'

'Seems like we're all going to be crazy now together,' Hyukjae replied in a similarly dazed state.

They waited until the mothers sobered up before speaking up tentatively again. 'So you are both okay with this?' Hyukjae bit his lip, hesitantly sliding an arm around Donghae's shoulders and pulling him close, silently sighing when Donghae shifted to press himself closer.

The butterflies in his stomach settled as his mother smiled at him. 'Why wouldn't we be? It's like we've already known each other for ages. I trust your decision and I trust Hyang Suk and her boy.'

Overcome with emotion, Hyukjae stood up and hugged his mother, trying to push down the welling ball of tears trying to force its way out of his throat. The anxiety of the past week simply dissipated, replaced with a crushing sense of love and relief and he visibly sagged against his mother, burying his face in her shoulder. She patted his back soothingly, whispering soft words of reassurance and comfort and he vaguely registered Donghae next to him doing the same thing with his mother as well. As much as Donghae talked bravely about how he was sure his mother would accept them, he knew by the restless sleep that Donghae had at night that he had not been that certain after all.

'One thing though,' Donghae's mother began after patting Donghae's head affectionately. 'There will be no fooling around in my house, or in Duk Boon's house. Nothing over R-ratings you two hear me?' She aimed her steely eyes at Hyukjae and he gulped, nodding immediately.

'Mom!' Donghae yelled, hands coming up reflexively to cover his red cheeks. 'We didn't - we never - I mean - oh my god why would you say that!' He looked up at Hyukjae pleadingly, as if begging him to rescue him from the situation but Hyukjae was similarly embarrassed, shying away from his mother as she reached to pinch at his cheeks laughingly.

'I'm just saying,' Donghae's mother defended herself whilst laughing lightly. 'I can't control two teenage boys but I can set some boundaries at least. And I will trust you two to obey them, even if we are not around at the time. Do I have your word?'

Donghae wrinkled his nose before nodding.

'Thanks anyway mom,' he whispered softly beside her ear and she hugged him back, cuffing him lightly on the head.

'You're my son, I wouldn't refuse you anything.'

Finally escaping the house and leaving the mothers to their afternoon tea, Hyukjae reached for Donghae's hand, swinging it gently as they walked down the street leisurely, heading for nowhere in particular.

'Well that went well,' he commented.

Donghae sighed. 'You were the one being a drama queen about it.'

'I was not!'

'You nearly pulled out all your hair,' Donghae deadpanned. 'And that's saying a lot because you have a lot of hair.'

'Hey!' Hyukjae interjected, looking wounded. 'Wolverine has lots of hair.'

'That's cause he's part wolf idiot.'

'Maybe I am part wolf. You'd never know.'

Donghae stopped in his tracks, hands itching to fling a rock into Hyukjae's ridiculously handsome face (he'd never admit it to Hyukjae he thought that way though). His lack of movement pulled his hand out of Hyukjae's and the latter turned around questioningly. 'I'm dating an idiot.'

Hyukjae laughed, fingers reaching out to find Donghae's hand again, gripping it tighter this time and pulling him closer. Donghae stumbled against him, wide-eyed and tripping over air.

'Lee Hyukjae,' he hissed, eyes darting around the neighbourhood. 'Can you not embarrass me? I actually have to live in this area.'

Grinning maniacally, Hyukjae stroked a slow teasing touch up Donghae's arm, his grin only growing wider as Donghae shivered. 'What's wrong? Embarrassed that you like me being like this?'

Donghae scowled and shoved at him. 'I'm cold.'

'In summer?'

'I have a weak disposition!'

'Weak?' Hyukjae stepped even closer, close enough to see Donghae gulp as he pushed further into his personal space. 'Guess I should take more care of you then huh? How about a full body examination?'

The sound Donghae made was something of a cross between a shriek and scandalised yell and Hyukjae burst into laughter again. Cupping Donghae's cheeks lightly, warm and red under his hands, Hyukjae smiled then, all pretense of play and teasing gone.

Donghae sucked in a sharp breath, suddenly overcome by the intense emotion filling him. Hyukjae looked the best like this, when no one else was around and when he smiled that soft secretive smile that was meant only for him.

They didn't kiss like Donghae expected, and he wrinkled his nose a little bit as Hyukjae pulled him into a firm hug.

'Thank you,' Hyukjae whispered, his hands ghosting over Donghae's shoulders and resting in the small of his back. 'Thank you for making me do this.'

Donghae clung to him, swayed a little from the emotion infused in the words and pressed his face into Hyukjae's shoulder.

In the end, this was what made everything worth it.

The fact that Hyukjae was beside him, holding him, and with him.
