Frankfurt pt. 1

Mar 26, 2007 10:53

Partly in honour of my birthday and partly to quell our curiousity, Steve and I embarked on an adventure to Frankfurt yesterday afternoon. Our eyes were met with many wonderful sights including the Staedel Museum (huge art museum) as well as new and old parts of downtown Frankfurt. The museum was fantastic and quite possibly the largest collection of classic artists I have ever seen in one place. Just to give you an idea, here are some of the paintings we saw:

The Croquet Party (La partie de croquet)
Edouard Manet (1832 - 1883)

The Wave
Gustave Courbet (1819 - 1877)

After the Luncheon (La fin du déjeuner), 1879
Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841 - 1919)

The Luncheon (Le Déjeuner), 1868
Claude Monet (1840 - 1926)

And my favourite:

Orchestra Musicians (Musiciens à l’orchestre)
Edgar Degas (1834 - 1917)

And I could go on and on but if you want to see the rest of what we saw, you can visit the museum's website:

www.staedelmuseum.de

There is an English side on the website and a list of their complete collection!
