Week Full of Kryptonite

Last Friday: 2 year anniversary with SK. Nice & low key celebration. Still not quite sure how two years have flown by so quickly. Feel like lucky girl who stumbled upon a lottery win.

Tried to turn over a new leaf at work by leaving at before 6 pm the entire week, except for Tuesday night's City Council meeting. Managed two out of three. I worked late tonight to finish sending out a neighboring community benchmark survey to 10 local cities as part of our cost-recovery analysis. It's a tough survey even though it only has two parts. Most agencies probably won't have completed their own analysis which means they will either spend an enormous amount of time trying to answer the questions or will throw me an estimate with no concrete numbers.  So I may get bum information or I've just burned through precious favor-owing points. Either way-- argh!

I have to admit I'm addicted to my new satellite DVR recorder! I haven't had true television in about 10 years and have never used anything like DVR/Tivo. It's wonderful! I absolutely LOVE fast-forwarding through commercials! I've been having fun going through the menu to search & then record whole series of TV shows. In the last month my pattern hasn't really strayed from PBS ( Channels 9 & 54) but I've made some discoveries in the cable & network realms as well. The Nasa channel, Discovery and A&E are wonderful! Dirty Jobs and Mythbusters are amazing! I've truly been living in a cave for the last several years without TV!  I have a true new regular broadcast addiction. I've set up my TIVO to record every episode of Ellen and I love it! Who knew?! She's adorable! I'm curious how much being able to fast forward through the commercials influences my opinion? It's funny how I just can't get into most of the commercial programming.

Right now my recording queue has Red Dwarf, BBC World News, Nova, Quest, Sex & the CIty, several old UK comedies, The Red Green Show and other random discoveries in addition to Ellen!!! Staid choices I know, It makes me sound like I'm on the far side of "middle age"

Tonight was another episode of Parks & Recreation with Amy Poehler. I'm really rooting for this show. It hasn't really lived up to my expectations but I'm sure I'm too close to the subject matter to be objective. I have had some sincere deep-belly laughs at the character who matches my position. The Recreation Director with the sawed-off shotgun pointed at the guest chair and the blown-up photo of Coach Bobby Knight gave me a huge laugh! Although the public meetings are contentious, they just don't convey the actual pathos rampant in public meetings. I'm rooting for this show, it has to get better! The writers really would have benefited by interviewing my staff!

Off to bed. Must find more cosmopolitan topics next time. . .
