I can understand what you are saying about making a donation as amethod of protesting, but in my opinion the value you provide to Card by going to see the movie is more your contribution to the success of the movie and therefor the likelihood he will get another movie deal. I did like the book. But I am gay, and having learned what he has said about me, I will not contribute in any way to anything that might benefit him until he apologizes. (unless, of course, he is homeless or needs lifesaving help).

OSC has received all payment he will receive for the rights to EG. He has no backend deal involving royalties or anything else. Lionsgate has already said that, due to the controversy of OSC's homophobia, there will be no sequels to EG and thus no franchise.

That's kind of a shame, because the best Ender book is the first sequel, Speaker for the Dead. I'd have liked to see that film, in which a protagonist gets to choose what happens to him rather than having it happen at him.

Are you 100% SURE about that? You don't know how Hollywood works. No one does. With the different roles OSC has in the film he could very well get a share of the take. Also who's to say that another studio won't pick up the IP and make it a franchise?

We can't be sure of the payment OSC has gotten and will receive in future for the film. However, John Scalzi, who has a fairly good understanding of Hollywood both as a critic and an author who's had books optioned, opines on the possibilities. It seems to me, from his analysis, that OSC has already made good money from the film, and is less likely to make significantly more with its box office success.

I rather like Scalzi's comment about hoping that the movie does well, and exactly why. It's part of why I like him - his honesty about things like that.
