Farewell, Gerry Anderson

Dec 26, 2012 14:14

Great sadness. Gerry Anderson has passed away at the age of 83.

He's primarily known for kids' shows with puppets. But we ain't talkin' Muppets or Hot Fudge here, oh no-no-no-no-no. We're talkin' stuff like this:

(I had a ba-a-ad crush on Marina. Yes, I know. Wrong. Tough. I did. Nyeah.) (Thank Cthulhu Julie Newmar came along as Catwoman a year later.)

From Supercar, to UFO, to Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, to a dozen more shows, to a frickin' musical that's so meta it'll shake your nerves and rattle your brains, Gerry Anderson was practically a one-man British version of Toei Ltd. His work permeated our childhoods, and gave us some pretty big dreams wrapped up in cheesy yet delightful gaudiness, and he will be missed. Rest well, sir, and thank you so much.

Especially for Marina. Hubba hubba.
