I just showed up to express my amusement at those "fake geek" accusations, especially since I know there's at least a 75% chance they're tongue in cheek. ;)

My own take on the "fake geek" is this, I don't like anyone pretending to be something they're not, unless it's their job to be an actor. It doesn't matter if it's attractive people pretending to like geeky things or a geek pretending to like football to fit in with the "in" crowd. I understand that sometimes it's necessary as a matter of personal safety (which lies outside the argument IMHO) but as far as I'm concerned pretending to like something when you don't is just for actors trying to sell a product. Why? Because it's dishonest and doing so feels like they're making some snide sarcastic joke at our expense.
