Legitimate rape
Legitimate rape
Is your rape legitimate rape
Was it real or only a jape
Legitimate rape
Did Akin just make a stupid mistake
Suggesting that some forms of rape are fake
Where reporters got it all on tape
Don't let him escape
"Legitimate rape"

Not meant to be insulting, but that's been rolling in my head for a day or two.

By "legitimate rape", Akin obviously meant "The so rare as to be practically nonexistent instances where the woman really was forced to have sex against her will, as opposed to the vast majority of cases where she was willing but afterward screamed 'Rape!' just to get the poor innocent man in trouble."

And now I'm going to have a two-minute hate for people who actually believe that crap.

You practically quote Bryan Fischer of the American Family Council. His tweet today:

"What Akin meant by "legitimate rape:" actual forcible rape, not consensual sex that later gets called rape. Come on, people."

What's disturbing is, despite the many cruel and insane things Fischer says on a regular basis, millions of people agree with him and support him.

No. As mentioned above, there's a belief among some of the fundie types that a woman cannot get pregnant from a "real" rape. That the body has some mechanism that prevents it. They've even got some (very fringe) medical types who support this.

That's why the references to the mechanism failing.

It's also evidence of just *how* out of touch with reality these folks are.

the statement that he knows several women who got raped and none of them got prognant.
1) Small sample in a large country
2) Probably not representative if it's women he knows well enough to hear about it
3) How does he know they didn't get emergency contraception or an abortion without saying,

But that would be logical.
