I've been joking for years that something has to be surgically removed from those wishing to advance in the Republican socio-political-economic power structure: irony, self-awareness, compassion, empathy, something.

This is one of those times I wonder if the joke is on me.

He and his brother talk about how christians are being persecuted because they don't have special rights but he can't see how minorities are being persecuted when thousands of them are being illegally denied the right to vote.

I'm not clicking the link because I'm in a good mindset to do my end-of-month reports and I don't want to burn it up in white-hot rage, but I'd bet a lot of money that the argument goes something like "sure, we had slavery, and black people had to drink from separate fountains for a while, but we had Martin Luther King Jr. and the [15th?] Amendment and now it's all good, so I'm going to stick my fingers in my ears and hum loudly if you mention systemic inequality or privilege".

Yeah. Remember canidate Huntsman who had to drop out early on. He was the best of the lot IMHO but that doesn't matter when you have millions at your disposal.

I don't know if we really need a two party system as much as people willing to make comprimises and put the nation's needs before their own party. Today's GOP seems more concerned with power than running the government for the benefit of all.
