Dunno the history of it, I'll admit. I'd quibble with the point anyway; between Asian high-speed rail, the Chunnel, etc., etc., lots of people are doing better than us Yanks.

I liked the last one. Except now that it's getting dark early and cold it will be harder to go outside for that walk.

For more fruits and veggies, I recommend going to different markets in your area until you find one with a good produce section at decent prices. And by good I mean going beyond the usual staples of potatoes, onions, carrots, etc. A good produce section will have some things that make you say WTF, how do I prepare that? (seriously though, some places need a guide to show you how to use some veggies)

I would have liked to add "shop locally" to the list. The less your food has to travel the fresher it is and cheaper it is. (Fortunately I live near a brewery.)
