LYR: Taking Love For Granite

It's been an awfully long time since I wrote new lyrics! Scansion's a little wonky, but I can sing it as is.

Taking Love for Granite
Words © David Weingart 2016
Music: "I'm a Believer" (as performed by the Monkees, written by Neil Diamond)

I thought loving you would be a mythic thing
I would follow you, and you would me
I would come to get you
That's the way it seemed
Medusa, you're the girl of all my dreams

Then I saw your face
Now I am a statue
Not a trace
Of life in my eyes
I feel stoned...I am a statue
I couldn't catch you if I tried.

I thought love was more or less a living thing
But I know that love, it really rocks
Ain't no use in crying
I told you once or twice
And now you know I'm really gneiss

(Be)cause I saw your face
Now I am a statue
Not a trace
Of life in my eyes
I feel stoned...I am a statue
I couldn't catch you if I tried.
