Brand Old Filk

Mar 01, 2008 11:45

I was trying to figure out what to sing for my concert @ Lunacon when I noticed several song lyrics from my collection of earlier filks were literally falling apart and hadn't been word-processed. These follow with necessary updates:

Off to a Con Again
© 1982/2008 Ariel Cinii (8203.14 IAC)
(to the tune of “Shoving Right Off For Home”)

Over the bridge! Let’s go, fen!
We’re off to a con. We’re off to a con again.
Nobody knows where or when.
We’re off to a con. We’re off to a con again.

We’re leaving today!
It’s up and away!

Eris and Ghu, don’t be blue.
We’ll just be gone for aleph-null and then,
We’re off to a con,
off to a con,
off to a con again!

Open the peas! Let’s go, Sven.
We’re off to a con. We’re off to a con again.
Bring your guitar and your pen!
We’re off to a con. We’re off to a con again.

We know the hotel.
They think we’re just swell!

Hey, C’thulhu, try this brew!
It’s just been mixed by sixty Aussie fen!
They’re off to a con,
off to a con,
off to a con again!

Loved Like A Pet Rock
©1982/2008 Ariel Cinii (8205.25 IAC)
(to the tune of “Love Me Like A Rock” by Paul Simon)

When I was just a little child,
The day the Great Bird called my name,
I said, “Now who do… who do you think you’re foolin’?”
I’m just a constipated child,
Readin’ STAR TREK comic books.

The true fen love me. They love me (chorus)
They get down on their knees and hug me.
Oh, I’m loved like a pet rock!
They rock me like the rock of ages,
They love me. They love me, love me, love me, love me.

And when I grew into a fan,
The minute Tantra called my name, (She’s the god of sex!)
I said, “Now who do… who do you think you’re foolin’?”
I’m just a deviated fan,
I’ve got my beer and my propeller hat.
(chorus)

And if I get to be a SMOF,
And Worldcon chairmen call my name,
I’d say, “Now who do… who do you think you’re foolin’?”
I just swung a Worldcon bid.
I’ve got a lifetime Boskone membership.

(chorus)
Well, at least they tolerate me.

Long May You Run
©2008/1995 Ariel Cinii (9505.19 IAC)
(to the tune of “Long May You Run” by Neil Young)

Long may you run. (chorus)
Long may you run.
All through these changes you’ve come,
With your warp drive flashing sun to sun.
Long may you run.

It was in the fall of 1965,
When I first saw what they’d done.
Now your place of honour is in the Smithsonian.
Long may you run.
(chorus)

The Federation wants you big and strong and fast,
And with some punch to your guns.
Just treat her like a lady and she’ll always bring your home.
Long may you run.
(chorus)

Every time you died, you went down in glory.
Just seems to be how it’s done.
From Archer to Jean-Luc, we’ve lived your story.
Long may you run.
(chorus)

If I don't sing these oldies at Lunacon, maybe I'll sing them at CONTATA, June 20-22 @ The Parsippany (NJ) Hilton.
