Well, today has been very low-key. I got yanked out of bed at like 8:30 this morning in order to get to work for 9. My legs were still aching me while I worked and still are hurting now. I got off work at two, sat around the house for a bit, and then went to my chamber group rehearsal at 4. At 6, I dropped off Zach Purdy at his house before making a bunch of phone calls to see what to do. So far, I've only spoken to James, Pele, and Jeff, and Jeff is the only so far that's actually hanging with me this evening. Hooray for everyone else being busy...
So in the meantime, I'm gonna go ahead and write up my 19th senior spotlight. It's not going to be about Behson, but another Jeff. So why waste oxygen? Let's get right to it. My next senior spotlight shines on...
Ok, so freshman year, I first met Jeff when I went to the pre-band camp marching band orientation session on like a warm summer evening in August. We were shown how to march by Andrew Weller and Christian Burset that night. I ultimately decided to not join marching band for it conflicted with my soccer schedule, but Jeff joined it and ended up spending the past four fall seasons rocking some awesome xylophone parts in the pit of the marching band. For the difficulty of the songs, I was always impressed at how he could memorize 10 minute long songs considering the million 16th notes that he had to play.
Jeff was also in my history class freshman year. He gave a neat presentation with Joey when the class was studying World War II, and he was one of the four (along with Anna, I think Joey, and me) who made individual presentations on the last topics of the course. He was also in my history class last year. In fact he's been in a lot of my classes over the past two years. As an IB diploma (soon-to-be) recipient, I had him in my history class last year, my Spanish class the past three years, my bio class for two, physics this year, English for the past two, ToK for the past two, and jazz band for the past three. I definitely admired his ability in history last year to always be able to stay on top of his assignments as he always had notes taken on what he read the night before. Academically, he's always seemed quite balanced and never quite stressed no matter how much homework we got. He just always resolved to do a little bit each day, especially project or paper-wise, and it's an ability I wish I had better control of throughout this year.
Jeff has always had a well-balanced life because he's always had to be. Besides being a four year marching band participant, he's also the only senior who's been involved in the pit orchestra for the past four years playing the synthesizer under the dim lights. As previously mentioned, he's played the piano for jazz band the past three years, and who could forget such awesome solos he had on songs like "Ecclusiastics" or within his combo group, Red Five? He was a part of Science League freshman year and this year, and I think he was in it sophomore year as well. He served well in student council, peer leadership, and student-faculty forum the past two years also.
So Jeff, may you continue this balance that uphold through your years at the University of Rochester and beyond. May your double-jointedness continue to amaze people, and may you continue enjoying everything you do. Oh yeah, Mr. Pianoman, keep playing your tunes, too.
Take care.
