I had no idea that skills learned in beta reading would be an essential part of my work life, but with the new job... Well, thank you fandom.

come on, you have to give us more than that. which beta reading skills exactly? i'm assuming that it's not the ability to keep track of whether someone has inadvertently given a character too many limbs in a scene in which said character appears in flagrante, but one never knows.

Theoretical and actual salience of the subject under review is difficult to keep in perspective with the distractor of other, more prurient, input.

Believe me, my partner thinks fandom extended my time in graduate school, but if I hadn't finished Presence, I'd never have believed I could finish a dissertation.
