The "team is a little like a group marriage" line made me think of due South's "partnership is like a marriage" line.

The difference is, it's a certain kind of trust in a team. The trust doesn't extend to (and often expressly does not include) personal stuff. You trust your team to get your back, do their job, and do what they say they will do when they said they would do it. That's not the same level of trust that life-partners need.
But I think Sheppard knows that McKay comes from a culture (academia, egomaniac-style) that doesn't understand that. Maybe hockey teams instilled some sense of it, but a lot of McKay's experience since then has not re-inforced it in a way that he cares about. I rec'ed your languange and sex Jack/Daniel piece to a linguist colleague who answered, "Wow. Cool. She's just an amazing writer." I agree. The story above would take a lot more ruthless editing to make it anywhere near as good as Freedom.
