My muses are truly awakening. I say this, even though I have not written a single word since my last report . . . but I do have scenes coming together in my head. The next step is getting them from my head to the figurative paper, and that is always harder said than done for me. It's like dieting and exercise. You have to get moving in that direction and once you've done it, it becomes easier and easier.
I stated before that I signed up for
inkitout with a goal to write 75,000 words by the end of the year. Given that I can be prolific, that doesn't sound too hard, but
remember my current word count?
After finally taking the time to find out what these big bang challenges are all about, I'm now considering signing up for one. I have two possibilities:
I've been told that I'm too wordy, but I'm going to use this to my advantage, hoping that my loquaciousness will help fill out the story by the deadline. So, what's my issue?
Story. Or, rather: Plot. I have two story-shaped ideas, for lack of a better descriptor. They have a setting, they have characters and one of them has a general feel of "I'd like to get from A to B," but there's really no driving plot in either of them. I need a plot and central conflict to bring it all together and make it a story and not just a creative writing class type of free writing experiment.
Therefore, I am appealing to my flist. I could really use a hand with some brainstorming and plotting to wrestle one (or both) of my story ideas into shape. Once I've accomplished that, I think I'll have a better idea of which story to focus on and which big bang to sign up for. (This means I might also call on your services as a beta once the thing is ready to go; both of the challenges allow you to chose your own beta(s).)
Oh yeah, I probably want to mention that both stories are crossovers. (What else?) Story #1 is Stargate SG-1/(New Series) Tomorrow People. It takes place post-series for both, though I conveniently ignored anything and everything about the Ori. Because I hated that story line.
Story #2 is a multifandom post-apocalyptic crossover. It definitely has four fandoms (Castle, Stargate SG-1, The Tomorrow People, and The Vampire Diaries).
I don't think it's necessary to be familiar with all the fandoms just to help me get the stories off the ground, though.
