A/N: Harry Potter SLASH, H/R, AU, Picks up in GoF where McGonagall tells Harry and his date, Ron, that they and the other three couples start the first dance at the Yule Ball. This will probably be the ending of an expanded story but wanted to see what others thought of my first try at writing H/R slash...(and still a bit of an LJ newbie) so be gentle.
"Well, now you know." with that McGonagall quickly walked away.
Ron had a shocked 'oh merlin' look on his face. Harry just pulled him closer and gave him a reassuring smile. "Well, ready to make Hogwarts history?"
"Right…as in Hogwarts’ worst dressed and worst dancer in history, full stop. Dancing with you with your quick feet and fancy robes just emphasizes i'all." Ron mocked.
Harry gently elbowed him in the ribs. "Oy! Err, I mean yes, definitely, terribly, Mister Potter."
"Brilliant, Mister Weasley!" and they both walked into the great hall hand in hand and took there place on the floor. As Harry expected and Ron feared, they had drawn the most attention of the four couples. Some looked at them disgusted, but only some, and since when did the opinion of Malfoy and his cronies added to more than a penny?
As the music started, Harry took the lead. Ron was a bit clumsy to begin with but slowly started finding his dancing legs. Dumbledore and some of the faculty began to join them on the floor but then something truly magical started happening. Harry spotted Ginny whisper to Pansy, who nodded, and they became the second same sex pair on the dance floor. "Oi, Ron, look!" Harry whispered to him. Ron caught his sister's eye and mouthed 'thanks' to her. She beamed back at him with a big smile. It didn't end there. Over the next few minutes, the entire DA and many others joined the couple in symbolic unity; Seamus and Neville, Fred and George, Oliver and Fred, Angelina and Padma, and many others. Soon it was catching on, even the three other tournament couples joined in; Cho danced with Hermione, Cedric with Victor, and Fleur with her sister. Harry and Ron were moved to tears by it all. They had no idea what the reaction was going to be, but they could have hardly expected this. They smiled at each other. Not the sort of smile you and I would use, but a smile that rivaled the hope and joy of any sunrise.
The waltz came to a stirring end. Ron, having finally found that he had a real talent for ballroom dancing, spun Harry around and dipped him into an embracing kiss. With that, the entire hall erupted with the sound of applause and catcalls. There would be dark times ahead, but the good will expressed in the great hall that evening would ultimately prevail. In the end Harry and Ron, to their very great surprise, would live happily after.
