I was always a Frodo/Sam shipper. I think there are very few male/male couplings in fiction that approach the kind of selfless love that those two showed through the LOTR series. Indeed, at the end Sam even asks to join Frodo in the undying lands, knowing full well that would mean leaving his family behind. Of course, Frodo tells him to stay and enjoy the fruits of his labors. Sometime later, according to the indices, it's mentioned that Sam did indeed follow Frodo to the undying lands.
Then comes Harry Potter books and, with the Globlet of Fire, the children turned teenagers Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. I never finished reading the first book but after watching Goblet of Fire, I intend to read the entire series. The angst level between these two through that entire movie exceeded that shown between Frodo and Sam in Return of the King, and THAT'S quite an accomplishment. From the falling out/making up scenes to the "thing you would miss the most", I think you would have to be a major muggle-brain not to see the writing on the wall.
Anyways, just my opinion. Fortunately one shared by many at the Harry and Ron LJ community.
