natural selection is fabulous.
Sukebe and I were watching the Discovery Channel and discussing the value of space colonization.
Me: what the hell we need to go colonize space for?
Sukebe: well, we'll need to move to a new planet when the sun goes nova in a few billion years.
Me: will we be around in billions of years?
Sukebe: maybe. Wonder what we'll look like then. Probably way different.
Me: but we don't adapt to our environment anymore so much as adapt it to ourselves, in radical and unprecedented ways.
Sukebe: I don't know, there's still some serious sexual selection going on.
Me: what are we selecting for anymore?
Sukebe: think peacocks, man. we're going to be a race of devastatingly beautiful people.
