Babs does a fantastic job of giving us Sam's thoughts and voice, as she puts aside her own injuries and shifts into stubborn soldier mode, going beyond the limits of her own strength in her efforts to get Daniel to safety. Add some gentle comfort in the infirmary afterwards, and a very Daniel-like tribute to their close friendship, and Next Best Thing is an excellent example of classic whump fic that you're sure to enjoy.
