X-Men First Class: "On Pragmatism"

Jun 22, 2011 22:25

Somehow, the Xavier family adopted a ten-year-old girl that they had never seen before. Erik is a little curious. Maybe he's fishing for a particular answer.

Vaguely implied Raven->Charles, vaguely implied Erik/Raven, vaguely implied Charles->Erik? No tangible anything. I am in excellent form as usual.

.on pragmatism.
Sorry not to be blue. )

Excellent ficlet and thank you so much for addressing the whole issue of just how Raven ended up as a member of the family. You came to the very same conclusion I did, Charles must've put the whammy on his parents, though reluctantly, for the greater good (so to speak).

I thought it was unlikely that a 12-year-old managed to convince anyone to adopt a mystery 10-year-old girl who just wandered into their house, so I figured he must've used mind tricks! I do love the tiny questionableness of some of the things Charles does and says, so I was happy to explore it. And I'm happy you liked it! ♥ Thanks for reading~

But I wonder if that pragmatism is because you don't have a problem with me tampering with minds provided it's for a good cause -- or because you don't have a problem with me tampering with the minds of humans, period?

That's a very important distinction between them, and one that will come up again and again - I really liked how you put your finger on it here.

Thank you! I love exploring their respective blurry lines, so I probably have like half a dozen fic ideas for poking at that, and what Charles thinks of Erik's darkness, and what Erik sees beneath his surface geniality. /gathers up this movie forever

Oh, this is fantastic. I love that Charles goes from being afraid of Erik judging him to wishing Erik would; that Erik wants Charles to step over the edge into moral territory he fears; and that Charles is torn between embracing conventional morality and enjoying his friend's contentment and approval. Gorgeous.

I figured that's how it happened as well, how else explain it?

I loved this conversation, how uncomfortable it was. Made me want to hug them both, for some reason - which means (in my opinion) it was fabulous :)
