Well I guess it's time that I updated this thing. I always think of
great things to write when I'm at work walking between isles of books.
They come to me. Songs, stories, whatever. It all comes to me at work
and I always say "hey i'm going to write this down when I get home." I
always forget by the time i get home or don't feel like writing. It's
kind of irritating. I've been trout fishing like crazy lately and I'm
loving it. It brings back memories from childhood and my dad and I.
I've visited a few of our favorite spots to fish. On opening day of
trout season I had taken Christin with me to Hacklebarney park and
fished the Black river. I think the Black river is one of the most
beautiful in the state. The giant boulders that line it's banks are
great reminders of a time long ago when ice was powerful. I caught
several trout that day. It's one of the best feelings going fishing. I
use my mitchell garcia 308 reel from my dad when he was a kid. It 's
made in france. Mitchell doesen't make it's reals like they used
to. I guess one of the best things about trout fishing is the smell of
the river and of course the smell of the trout. After you got the trout
the smell is on your hands for a while. Some might say it's disgusting
but there's something about the smell that really puts things in
perspective. It's earthy and when you look around yourself and see the
trees and woods you feel in harmony with nature. Most people have ruled
out fishing as a boring sport because they have a preconception of it
as sitting in front of a lake with a lawn chair waiting for something
to bite. Thankfully everyone doesen't fish or it would be too crowded
in a state like New Jersey. The others in this picture are just your
average opening day fisherman. On a regular in season day at the black
river you might see one or two other fisherman. On opening day they
come out of the woodwork. Most of them pay the license fees and fish
once all season. I'm headed out tomorrow to spruce run creek.
