The past few days have been good for me. I went out to Ohio and saw Christin, and it was beautiful time spent together. I met her family and they're all so nice. We had some nice quality time. The ride out was kinda nice and it was the first time i've driven out there in day light which allowed me to see some nice scenery. On the way back I was really tired from having not slept but it had snowed the night before and there was fog in alot of places and it was beautiful going through forests of evergreens blanketed by white snow. In some places it was like driving through a dream and I had all the right music playing for that feeling to come alive. Music is amazing sometimes and I always seem to get lost in it. There I was driving through fog and snow covered evergreens with some trance music on that really said everything about the scenery and particular instance. When driving through a mountainous area I had Scar Tissue on from the Chili Peppers and that was quite a soundtrack to the sites I was taking in.
Later on yesterday after I came home I went to the 3rd N.J annual Lincoln Day Dinner. I was surprised to see Jason and John both with their instruments (bass Drum, and Fife). We had not played together in a while. We all played and sounded excellent. We've even scheduled a rehearsal for Sunday at llam. I have a good feeling about this season of living history. For a while my enjoyment and passion for playing fife and drum was lacking and as of last night it's been rekindled. I think there is hope for us as a group too. For a while there seemed to be some turmoil but I think we can be great again. The 3rd N.J had a lot of respect from the reenacting community for it's excellent field music and I think we can get that respect back again. It takes a willingness of the members to want to be great and to realize that it goes beyond the politics of reenactinig and the music itself. We're all good friends deep down. The music we make is a reflection of that friendship. It's hard to sound good if there's a lapse in that bond between us. I think we're headed for greener pastures.
