Character Name: Alex Drake
Fandom: Ashes to Ashes
Canon Point: Post series three aka post-canon
Age: 34
Appearance:
Abilities / Powers: She's a normal human being. Although in her canon she was transported back in time, she didn't do it herself/by herself. She's a police psychologist, trained to “get inside the minds” of criminals. This allows her to talk down hostage and volatile situations and take a behavioral approach to solving cases and relating to victims. She also knows how to use a gun, but prefers not to use it if possible, and is well versed in old well-known police cases having them studied them for her training.
Inventory:
- Her clothes: large wool blazer, red & black striped sweater, skinny blue jeans, red pumps
- Wallet with her driver's license/ID badge
- and a scant amount of change with a couple receipts
- scrap pieces of paper with notes jotted down and 2 ink pens
- Handcuffs
Personality: If there's one word to describe Alex Drake, it would be determined. She studied long and hard and worked her way up the ladder of the police force to be a specialist in police psychology. When she's brought to the 1980s, she doesn't let gender roles stop her and is determined to push forward and demonstrate her worth to her team in investigating various crimes and cases. She's patient with victims of crimes and likes to do things by the book even though some of her coworkers don't appreciate that approach.
Her determination is also showed by her perseverance to get back to her time and to her daughter, with whom is her sole family member outside her godfather who helped raise her. She'll have hallucinations, both visually and auditory which occur most during her times alone or late at night, although they have been known to happen during work, Alex ignores the fact that it may make her look completely insane and will go back to whatever she was doing as if it never happened. She keeps this to herself, but has most of her actions and decisions based on whether it might help her get back home.
Alex is often a serious person, and takes her job very seriously. She gets frustrated by DCI Hunt who prefers to do things his way which often have potential legal repercussions and she's not afraid to point it out. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, depending on the situation. Alex isn't by any means a person easily walked on, and will stand her ground or do things her own way if need be, but often she'll let Gene get away with what he's doing.
Empathy is another strong characteristic of Alex's. She's able to see if her coworkers are stressed and is seen approachable in their eyes. Characters have come to them with their concerns or open up to her without fears of what she may think or say. Often when Gene isn't getting anywhere in an investigation, Alex will use that empathy and her psychology training to relate and extract information from them. Again, this has been effective due to her calm nature and empathy she exhibits. She believes Gene's ways of policing are harsh and ineffective and doesn't hesitate to remind him that or correct others on certain things, such as encouraging Chris to stop smoking.
Because of these characteristics, she's well respected amongst her coworkers and easy to get on with. She's one of the few coppers who knows guns and violence doesn't necessarily always solve problems and hopes the CID recognizes that one day.
History:
Here First Person Sample:
Here Third Person Sample: Nights seemed to be the worst. Alex would make herself a cup of tea and watch the local news stories on the telly. Most of the time, she was afraid of what was being said in regards of a case she was currently working on but she kept on watching in hopes there would be something played to be the grand revelation as to how to get back home to 2008. Back to her daughter, Molly.
Sometimes, Alex would doze off and hear her daughter speaking in the quietest of voices or see her standing there ominously watching her from a distance. She always promised that she was doing her best to get back, to crack the code and fight through these demons tormenting and teasing her with the threads of her life. But when she'd wake up and look around, the apartment was empty as it always was.
Loud banging sounded at the door and muffled gruff voice could be heard which could only belong to the one known as Gene Hunt. Groggily, she padded over to the door and opened it. “Something the matter, Guv?”
“Get your boots, Bolls, we've a bastard to catch.” And the night wasn't ready to be over just yet as she threw on her jacket and joined him in the Quattro.
