[sup Tron, there's another guy in a weird-looking, tight-fitting suit passing by. He notes Tron's suit, thinking it might have something to do with his own... but the discs make him pause, especially when he tries to put them on his back or something. So, Kriz approaches, looking curious.]

What are those discs?

[Tron glances up and sees the other person, noting his attire but also his lack of identity discs.]

They are called identity discs... something important to programs. They record everything we do or learn. [He turns the dual disc over in his hands, contemplating it.] It is also used as a weapon.

[Programs? Hmm... interesting, but not as much so as those discs.]

How do you use them as a weapon? Are they thrown, perhaps?

They can be, yes. That is most common. [Tron flicks the joined disc in his hand, lighting it, the edges spinning and glowing.] They can also be used in hand-to-hand combat.

[[OOC: And ignore the fact that it's the old movie disc in his hand in this icon...]

ignored. (the icon, I mean, not the post!) cuttingedges February 2 2011, 08:17:11 UTC
Hand-to-hand combat? They don't look like particularly effective melee weapons, unless that glow serves some purpose. May I see one?

[Tron frowns, not sure he likes the idea of someone else handling his disc.] They are quite efficient at derezzing other programs when struck with them. I... have seen them injure a User as well. [Won't say that he was the one to do it, no...]

Allow me to demonstrate instead, if I may. [He stands, splitting the glowing disc into the twin weapons as he searches for a suitable target. A small tree nearby will be his unfortunate victim.] This will do. [Spinning around, he slices through a low-hanging branch, several inches thick, a clean cut all the way through with the blade of the disc. Another spin, and he throws the second, which arcs cleanly around the tree, taking off branches and leaves at the top before returning to Tron's hand.]

[...This guy, right here? He's impressed. Given the chance, he'd gladly learn to use said discs, but right now it seems like he can't. So, question time.]

You're a living program of some sort, then?

Correct. [Tron inclines his head in greeting, snapping the discs together in his hand.] My name is Tron... I was designed by the User Alan-1 as a security program.

Interesting... a sort of firewall or antivirus, then? [Kriz holds out his hand; let's see if Tron goes for the handshake.] My name is Krizalid.

[Tron thinks a moment, then nods.] A valid comparison, but there are programs that perform those functions as well. I was more general in nature, designed to watch the system for flaws and threats.

[He shifts the discs to his opposite hand, and reaches out to shake it... he knows of this gesture of the Users, at least. Flynn was always showing him new things like this...]

Krizalid. What of you, then? Are you... [He hesitates, unsure of what to ask.] You are not a program, I assume. But I have learned that here not all are Users, either.

[He's a bit surprised by the handshake, honestly, but it doesn't really show.]

What do you define as a "User"?

One who... uses programs, gives us purpose. One who creates programs.

I have met only two in my existence, before now. This world is... very different from mine, as I am sure mine is for them.

[Kriz can't really imagine what it would be like to live inside a computer. Different, certainly.]

Hm. I don't believe I'm a User; not in your world's sense. I'm not a program, either. [...though he feels a bit like one sometimes.] Regardless, how are you coping with the change?

[Tron pauses a moment, looking around himself. This place is far different than any he could have ever imagined, and he still does not understand most of what he sees.]

I am... adjusting, as well as can be expected, I think. Flynn... ah, a friend of mine, a User, told me some things of his world, so I understand a little. But still, to see it all is most strange.

I can't sympathize, but I do understand. I would likely have the same trouble if I were to enter your world.

[He pauses, looking again at the two discs Tron has.] Those identity discs. Which one is yours?

[Ouch. That would be the question of the day, wouldn't it? Tron frowns and snaps the two discs together again.]

I believe... they both are. [He glances over at Kriz, wondering how much he can tell him.] I am the only program I know of to use two, but now I fear they are impossible to separate. My memories and code are imprinted on both. I took the second off of a program that I derezzed in defense of Flynn, but then...

[He clenches his jaw a moment, his hands tightening on the dual discs.] I was captured and repurposed. My... captor altered the discs to make them both mine. There is no way to determine which is the original... and in any case, they have a thousand cycles worth of experience and memory on them.
