Today was my first first day of class in well over a year. There was no getting up at the crack of dawn, no rushing about trying to get ready, no stressing out trying to get to class on time, no sitting in rush hour traffic for eternities, no languishing in overstuffed classrooms frantically taking notes until your brain is leaking out your ears and your hand's about to fall off. Yep, this "taking classes online" thing definitely has potential.

The downside, of course, being that online classes only exacerbate my natural procrastination tendencies, which leads to me doing silly stuff like scouring the internet for pictures of voice actors.

I don't know why, but I am insatiably curious about what the actors who voice the characters in my video games actually look like. In a way, it's kind of like internet friends--you get an unconscious picture in your head of what they look like, and then when you find out, sometimes your mental image actually lines up with reality and sometimes it's hilariously off.

Anywho, these are the ones I could find. Some of these pics I nabbed off YouTube videos, which is why the quality is crappy and/or the actors look like they're in mid-word, because they are.

Dragon Age:

Yeah, this was definitely one for the "hilariously off" category.

I could not find a decent picture of Claudia Black for the life of me! 'Twas most distressing. And there I go talking like Morrigan.

WOT. I would never have guessed in a jillion years that Sten's VA was an average-looking white dude who's only seven years older than me. I figured it was going to be someone in his forties or fifties. Apparently this guy is also a singer. The clips on his site are like, unexceptional pop music. They're so completely un-Sten. They're like the anti-Sten. I tried to get my sister to listen to them and she plugged her ears and fled the room in horror at the unStenness of them.

This one threw me for a loop, too. I'm not really sure what I was expecting, but again, given Zevran's accent, average white dude wasn't it.

Sadly, I couldn't find any pictures of the actress who plays Wynne, so I'll transition into Mass Effect VAs with the one actor who played a party member in both Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2:

Mass Effect:

That's the best picture of Raphael Sbarge I've ever seen. Yeah.

I wish I were as cute as Tali. Or Liz Sroka for that matter.

AUGH. I will never look at Saren the same way again.

For some reason, I have a really hard time imagining Mordin's rapid-fire voice coming out of that guy's mouth.

I'm not gonna say it...really not gonna say it...I WILL RESIST!

...BUT THE PRIIIIIIIIIZE

Well, at least I said it quietly.

Another one for the shocker! column.

I'm always amazed at how voice actors tend to be (or at least can be) so much older than their characters.

Or in this case, way, way younger.

I couldn't find any pictures of Kasumi's actress. :(

And then there are the celebrities! Whose appearances, of course, everybody already knows, but it's still fun to compare and contrast.

THE HERO OF CANTON HAESTROM

I feel like Seth Green is staring into my soul in this picture. It's kind of unnerving.

Yeah, I know that's Michael Hogan as Saul Tigh, but let's face it, Michael Hogan is Saul Tigh.

Tricia Helfer must be tired of playing AIs.
