(no subject)
Even though Stargate Atlantis has fallen from my favor, there are a few episodes coming up later on this season that I'm actually interested in watching. So I figured, rather than trying to puzzle out exactly when those episodes will be airing and risk missing them, I might as well just set my DVR to record all the new episodes. Most of them I delete unwatched; however, I checked out the summary for last week's episode (not the most recent, but the one before that) and thought it looked intriguing, so I figured what the heck.
I was impressed by three things in particular:
1. Can it be...Sheppard backstory?! *feels lightheaded from the shock* After only three and a half seasons, finally a little bit of backstory on the main character! Granted, there weren't any Major Revelations or anything, but it turns out that he actually did have family back on Earth--a father and a brother. And his ex-wife even got a little bit of face time.
2. This one shocked me even more than the Sheppard backstory bit. When I first saw that there was an attractive female guest star, I was like "Oh, here we go. Hot Babe of the Week, coming right up." But as the episode went on, I kept waiting for the male characters to start relentlessly ogling/hitting on her, and...it didn't happen. Even better, she actually served a purpose in the storyline and wasn't just around to be the requisite scantily-clad, big-boobed eye candy. I was like "HOW CAN THIS BE. THIS IS NOT THE STARGATE I REMEMBER." But hey, I'm sure not complaining. I guess Mallozzi must have been sick when this episode was written and filmed, or something.
3. Ronon is really hot. Not that this is new or anything, but it's nice to see that at least some things from the good ol' days of Atlantis haven't changed.
ETA: Haha, I realized it probably looks kind of bad for me to go straight from making sarcastic comments about the piece-of-meat treatment of female guest characters to "Ronon is hot." So just for the record, I like Ronon as a character too, not just for his hotness. *nod*
And wow, I still have a ton of Atlantis icons, for some reason.
