I saw masses of these blue flowers when walking along the Fife Coastal Path between Aberdour and Burntisland on 2nd June, 2006. My Wild Flowers of Britain book identifies them as Bugloss (Anchusa officinalis), which I'd never heard of, and a google image-search confirms this.
