Today was the best day I've had in a long time. First I discovered a tea shop that's been around for about seven years, so it's not likely to close next week. Every tea shop I've come across in Tampa is either open only 2 hours a day, or closes the week after I find it. And this place serves Iced Thai tea, which I'm nuts about.
After that, I got a tattoo of one of my favorite Lovecraft quotes; it's probably the most famous one. I'll post a picture of it soon. The tattoo guys were really, really nice and extremely chatty. I had a very good time with them; they were excellent company. Since you get a free tatt if you spend a certain amount of money, I got a small one in memory of Jesse on my ankle. I might expand on it later. I'll post a picture of that too, though it's not very interesting. Both the tatts are just text, but I'm really very happy to have them.
Next, I was planning on a movie, but I had a little time to kill so I went to a dim sum restaurant near the tea shop called Chopstix. Very nice food; I learned that quail is probably not worth eating unless you're really starving or you have a brace of them, and that I really, really like steamed tripe. At least, I like it the way they make it. I've been discovering an inordinate fondness for Menudo as well. The stew, not the band. Remember the band? Probably not. Anyway, cow stomach lining=yum.
Then I went to see Cabin In the Woods, the new Joss Whedon horror film that was billed as "redefining the horror genre". I wouldn't say it did that, but fuck, was that an enjoyable movie. I had a fantastic time watching it. Not least because Topher Brink starred in it. Remember Topher, the mad genius from Dollhouse, Joss Whedon's most criticized show? Okay, so his name's actually Fran Kranz. He's delightful to watch. Anyway, it's been forever since I've enjoyed a horror flick so much. If you like creepy movies even slightly, go see it. If you like them a lot, GO SEE IT.
After that, I went to Tijuana Flats to unwind with a book, some searing hot sauce, beer and a chimichanga. I really like that place; it's so cheap, and the food is quite nice. Not terribly authentic, but several steps above Taco Bell, plus they have beer and better hot sauce. An enjoyable end to a very enjoyable day.
It seems in order to enjoy myself I have to spend every last cent I can spare. Oh well. It was worth it.
