If you are looking for someone uncategorizable and somewhat androgynous yet incredibly amazing to love--not in real life, of course--might I suggest to you that Noel Fielding might be that person. I call him an Exquisite Corpse in reference to the exercise the Parisian Surrealists used to do where they did a round robin sort of drawing, where the next artist on continued the drawing with the paper folded over so they couldn't see what the previous artist had drawn. Except in Noel Fielding's case, he is all the artists, and he knows exactly what's on the paper, but it's still a big fucking surprise to everyone else. He's a beautiful fashionista who loves to make himself look completely ridiculous and hideous. He has a profound love of the absurd and speaks more nonsense than anyone I can think of, but with such wit that it all comes out side-splitting. He seems to have no ego at all, even though as a beautiful man and a major artist he should by rights have one the size of that rubbish heap floating in the ocean that's the size of Texas. He's like what happens when matter and anti-matter meet; he's all trends from goth to hippy and none of them at all; he's understated, sublime and completely over the top; he's indescribable. So of course he's completely unknown in America except on Youtube. For fuck's sake.
On NickFromFulhamAgain's Youtube playlists, you can see Noel in the last three series of Never Mind the Buzzcocks, a few episodes of The Big Fat Quiz of the Year and most profoundly in Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy, which is his new show, and which I recommend very, very highly. I think he's most known for The Mighty Boosh, which he wrote with and co-starred in with Julian Barrett (also an amazing man), and which I watched all three series of in one night and I really hope that's not the last of it.
So if it pleases you, please join me in appreciation of this fantastic individual and sincere amazement that he's allowed to be on TV as much as he is, and that someone funds his delightful madness.
