You may remember when I talked about getting a veggie burger from BK on the way to Boston. I haven't had one since. Well, yesterday was a weird junk food only day and I was hungry for something fast and didn't have time to go anywhere I normally like to go. I went to BK for the veggie burger. Apparently it is not something that people order there often. In the first attempt, they tried to give me mustard, ketchup and onions on a bun. The second attempt--a real hamburger on a bun. So for the third time when I pointed to the menu and said, "Look, you have veggie burgers by Morningstar Farms up there," someone else (that I hadn't dealt with yet) piped up from the back, "You want a BK Veggie Burger, right?" Yes. That is what I ordered and that is what I should get. I ate my fries while I waited, trying to remain calm (and wouldn't have worried about the time if I didn't have to leave for my internship). Finally I got it and it was the right thing. The man that piped up offered me more fries, to which I said no (a small is enough) and then I headed on my way. While all of this is going on, the cashier asks me, "You don't eat meat?" and when I gave her my answer, she was so surprised. It was like she had never even heard of someone doing something like that before. Why the hell not? Most people have heard of vegetarianism/veganism, even if only in vague terms or as something to tease someone about. Instead of stopping all visits to that BK, it's almost worth it to keep going there just so they can figure out what the hell is on their own menu.
