Heh - Fandom Stuffs
Grrr! I just wrote a BOOK for an entry and it all got deleted while I was trying to fix one paragraph. *sobs*
It was all about Numb3rs and how much I'm depressed about how this show finally got its claws in me as an obsessive fan.
And I do mean OBSESSIVE. It's rather sad how much I've been paying attention to this fandom recently. It's been a bit of an anomally for me really. My love for this show isn't working out in the same way that I usually fall for a show. It's kinda confusing me actually.
For instance, I usually melt for the mostly-awkward Geeks. My past/current character faves would include: Dr. Daniel Jackson/SG1 (DUH!), Dr. Rodney MacKay/SGA (don't go asking me about SGU yet, 'cause I'm still figuring that one out), Ianto Jones/Torchwood, Wesley Wyndam-Pryce/Angel, Dr. Wilson/House (okay, so they're ALL awkward Geeks on that show), and Sam Winchester/Supernatural.
Ya know, just to name a FEW.
And if you knew anything about this show, you'd know that the awkward Geek in Numb3rs would be none other than Dr. Charles/Charlie Eppes.
And this dude just annoys the SH!T out of me! Well, and truly does. When this guy shows up on screen, I usually wonder if I have time to run to the kitchen for a snack.
I know this info could get me killed in some circles, but I actually like the character Amita a *little* more than I like Charlie; even when most of the time they're just talking heads to get the story moving along (because otherwise us idiot viewers would be totally lost in whats going on) and the rest of the time they're making doey eyes and kissy faces at each other.
They're perfect for each other.
Larry and Megan were also perfect for each other!
Liz and Don were great for each other too!
Do you see some of the WTF-ery I've been dealing with yet? The Geek bugs me, and I'm very happy with three HET pairings!
I just don't DO het for fandoms. Not my thing. And its not like I'm actively pouncing for more development on these pairings, but it doesn't squick me to watch them like TV romance usually does. Okay, Charlie/Amita squick me a bit, but on the whole I'm fairly passive about it.
Then there is the main reason why I've watched the entire series of Numb3rs in the past couple of months.

He's supposed to be the brawn-no-brain soldier. I say, "supposed to be" because I'm seeing a lot of smarts in this character. I could be biased though, heh.
For all of you who stay within the realm of sci-fi fandom, do you realise how spoiled we are?
Maybe its because sci-fi/fantasy attracts mostly geeks and nerds that we tend to have hundreds of websites with a heaping side-order of fanfiction archives dedicated solely to the *type* of fanfiction we want to read?
Like, if you wanted SG1 slash you'd first go to Area52HKH. And you would be guarenteed to find a number of *series* that would last well over a week to read, even if you were reading them all day long.
Not so much with Numb3rs.
Well... I *did* at one point. But then that pairing got all squicky on me.
I was all for Colby Granger/Tim King. King had only two episodes, but the interaction between the SWAT leader and the fed agent was dynamic. And don't get me wrong, Colby/David Sinclair is cute, and just about canon, but there were times where their cuteness just wasn't enough for me to not stray.
And then fanfiction started to disappoint. Most of the very few fics on Colby/Tim are rape fics. Tim King apparently can't interact with Colby without raping him in the office's bathroom, I kid you not. In fact, I think they've all specified that the rape takes place in the larger stall for disabled bodies. *rolls eyes*
So that started the squick, but it's not what ended it.
While going through the savecolby lj comm for fic, I've come across some interesting tidbits on my new obsession that is Colby Granger.
Turns out the actor Dylan Bruno is a MIT graduate in engineering, which if I new this before I started watching Numb3rs could have explained WHY I would obsess over Colby. 'Cause I've always liked guys with brains.
BUT! And this is a kicker; he also has a brother who acts, known on IMDB as Chris Bruno and he actually guest starred on Numb3rs a couple of times.
And if you have guessed it yet, yes, Chris Bruno's character is none other than TIM KING.
*facepalm*
So there goes that pairing. And may also explain why Granger and King were so comfortable in the way they would fight each other, LOL. Which is very sad, 'cause I still can't help but think that Colby/Tim is HOT. And I know there's a difference between RL and the fictional world, but it still feels like a stretch in the imagination to pair up characters that have familial ties in RL. Especially without guilt! Should I be able to proudly wave a C/T flag without hiding behind a couch? LOL
Though I had no problems pairing up the fictional brothers Sam/Dean... hell, that's practically canon anyway! (Did you hear what Zach said about them in the last ep?? ROFL!)
I DO have a problem pairing up Don/Charlie; though possibly part of the reason would be Charlie being as annoying as fcuk.
And Colby/David IS an intriguing pairing - they even dated, and I'm a card carrying member of wolf_tickets, but Colby/Don is intriguing too, as is Colby/Ian Edgerton; so I have choices... I just don't have a set pairing for Colby's one twu wuv!
So yeah, Numb3rs is confuzzling me. Not sure what to do about it.
One thing that has happened, is I've started writing a crossover SG1/Numb3rs fic. Don't think I'll ever share it as it's absolutely indulgent. And would squick people in the same way that Colby calls Charlie "Angel" in seemingly every Colby/Charlie fic.
Yes, that's how little there is of Colby-centric fic. I've had to resort to Colby/Charlie to get my fix these days. *squicks*

- There is no such thing as a Numb3rs fanfiction archive (unless you go to fanfiction.net, but that really doesn't count); if there is a main archive, I haven't found it yet and I've been googling.
- I've also been searching hard for Novellas, but there doesn't seem to be even ONE in sight, especially not for Colby-centric fic, and definitely not in slash;
- In fact, most of the fic I've found are not much more than drabble size. It's like Fanfiction went on Weight Watchers.
