Name: CC (aka Wolf)
Journal: Silverwolfcc
Contact: PM to fierybluebird, AIM: LittleTigerCC12 (aim is fastest)

Character Name: Marco (epithet the Phoenix)
Series: One Piece
Gender: Male

Age & Canon Point: Unknown (over 36) & Chapter 580 of the manga (when his father/captain dies from a betrayal of an ex-crewmate who likewise killed one of Marco's best friends, and was responsible for events leading up to a fight that almost killed his entire crew, only to get saved by someone Marco doesn't even like much.)

Requested Sponsor: Diamond. I'm a little uneasy requesting that as its supposed to be elite, and I'm not sure how well he'd adhere to rules in general, (he was an outlawed pirate before this) but his two main character traits are maintaining a deadpan sense of composure and intense loyalty. He's also a good a leader and highly intelligent as required for the job. So if not Diamond, sapphire or ruby. (Whichever a mod thinks is best?)

History: http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Marco

Abilities & Physical Abnormalities: (If your character has anything that would be considered out of the norm - please be succinct.) Marco looks like a pineapple head with the hair cut, head shape, and droopy eyes. He has the tattoo symbol of his crew on his chest and would never let someone ask him to get rid of it, he might be willing to cover it up if he was given a strong enough reason. More notably, Marco ate a devil fruit that allows him to turn into a blue fiery phoenix. He can change just parts of his body at a time or just exude the blue flames as he chooses, and is one of the only zoan (devil fruit users who turn into animals) who is known to be capable of this. However, he rarely shows it off except to actually use it. As a phoenix, he's a little larger than human sized, VERY blue, and if someone hadn't know it was Marco, they might think it was a female because it looks a little girly. Because he has a devil fruit and a fire-based one at that, he's not fond of water and he can't swim, as well, the universal weakness for all devil fruit users is ocean. He can take showers, but he cannot swim (he'd drown) and even being waist-deep would make him uneasy.

Personality: Marco is extremely strong: physically, fighting and also mentally, as he a lot of willpower and was able to resist falling asleep from Shanks' haki. He's ridiculously protective of his crew and anyone he cares about as an ally or trusted friend. He loves Whitebeard as a father, calling him Pops like the rest of the crew does, and was the first person to explain to Ace why they trust and love Whitebeard as a father. He gets very mad when someone hurts his crewmates, and tends to be the worrier of the crew, sometimes referred to as the "Mother Hen" in fanon. He's intimately well-informed of crew matters being one of Whitebeard's most trusted commander and is seen as very responsible, even duty-bound at times. As the first division commander he's "the big brother" of the family that is the Whitebeard crew and he looks after all his little brothers, calling them "young ones" and treating them like idiots until they get stronger and learn more about how the world works. He has a deadpan sense of humor, claiming in the middle of battle to be severely hurt by Kizaru even when he was completely unharmed, and is shown to be quite sarcastic while maintaining an emotionless face. He doesn't like to show weakness to enemies or outsiders and because a lot of people (such as Crocodile) want to kill Whitebeard to take his place or in an attempt to become the next pirate king, he's usually wary of them. However, he does take a quick liking to Luffy, partly because he knew how important he was to Ace and also because Luffy stopped Crocodile from attacking Whitebeard in the fight.

Marco has an extremely intense loyalty to Whitebeard. So much so that he generally dislikes Red-Hair Shanks for frequently asking Marco to switch sides and join his crew instead. He also got annoyed with Shanks for using haki on his crew, which Marco is very protective of. His love for Whitebeard (and worry thereof) is so great that despite the composure Marco shows through the rest of the battle at Marineford, when Whitebeard got hurt and started to fall, Marco turned his back on his enemy to try to rush to Whitebeard's side and this got him into handcuffs draining him of his phoenix powers. He openly cried at both Ace and Whitebeard's deaths even though it was in the middle of a battlefield, but he still maintained the presence of mind to try to get the rest of his crew to safety -- showing exactly why he was one of Whitebeard's strongest commanders, mentally as well as physically. Likewise, Marco is extremely intelligent, and knowledgeable about aspects of the world, few; if anyone knows much about, and he's been known to explain it to his crew members.

What are your plans for the character in-game? He'd want to be a Seed and go through the training. Even though he could probably handle most of the classes, he wouldn't know any of the summoning of course, so that would take him a while to learn.

Anything else? Fandom has a tendency to draw Marco with glasses (even though they're never shown in canon and probably unnecessary since he'd have bird vision) so a lot of the icons I use have them. May he keep them as a random personality tic? (Even though, he wouldn't need them, just wear them to look smart/studious, give off a focused "don't disturb me" aura.)

Complete TWO out of the FIVE options.
i) IC Questionnaire

--As this questionnaire is entirely IC, your character is free to lie. -- (And so Marco does. Just for a warning.)
What do you prefer to be known as? Marco.
How old are you? A million.

Do you have any history in combat? Tons. I've been in several wars, faced and survived all three admirals on separate occasions in the same day even, and I led the first division of the Whitebeard pirates in several battles.
If so, have you ever killed? Yes.

i) How do you feel when you get involved in some project that calls for immediate and rapid activity? Excited.

ii) Do you organize and initiate leisure activities? On occasion. Someone has to keep the knuckle-heads from getting too rowdy.

iii) What role do you take when working in a group? Leader.

iv) How talkative are you around other people? Not very.

v) What three things would you want to have with you on a desert island? State your reasoning. A den den mushi to call my captain, a small surgical kit in case I had seastone shrapnel weighing me down or needed to look after a comrade, and a log pose to know which direction to fly home.

vi) Is it important to be liked by a wide range of people? Only if you need something from them, like if they're your crew.

vii) When the odds are against you, it is worth taking a chance? Depends on for what.

viii) Do you consider yourself to be an impulsive person? Not really, eh.

ix) Would you agree that planning things ahead takes the fun out of life? No, as long as you're open to changing the plans.

x) Do you like surprises? If it's a puppy.

xi) Do you sometimes wonder if there is something wrong with you? No, never.

xii) Do you consider yourself to be smarter than your superiors, and disagree with their decisions? The only superior I recognize is my captain and I'd do anything he said without questioning it.

xiii) Lastly, how do you feel about cabbages? Delicious when boiled.

Prose Sample: Something he really wants, but can't get.

Marco glanced out the windows of the store, he did not want to be seen while doing this. Finally alone, he surveyed the large variety of hats. A straw hat was out of the question. Even if it was the emblem of Ace's kid brother now, it still used to belong to Shanks and that tainted all of them forever. Besides, straw burnt too easily and it'd be annoying to have to always focus on keeping the hat safe. A cowboy hat was also out of the question because Marco would only ever be able to associate it with Ace's ludicrous orange and faces hat. A white cap looked too much like the marines' cadets, a fedora was too much like the marine spies. The top hat was classy, but would have fit better with Vista. The fruit hat gave Marco some pause, but even as an ironic statement he wouldn't be able to take himself seriously in that. Forgoing hats entirely, Marco looked over the bandannas, but they were too much like Pops' own. Finally, he gave up. He'd just have to stick with his unique haircut and that was that.

The weeks following Marineford were hell. Marco wanted nothing more than to just drown in a drink that reminded him of his adoptive father, or at least to fly away and never look back. He couldn't though. He knew he couldn't keep the islands Whitebeard had claimed for the crew safe. He wasn't even sure he could keep all of the remaining Whitebeard crew safe and alive. Even with that red-haired bastard Shanks' help in getting Kaidou out of the way so that the third pirate emperor wouldn't be able to attack Pops' beloved fleet leaving. Their losses weren't numerous, but the losses were great. Even without Oars Jr. directly in their crew, the crew felt it as deeply as one of their own. His crazy risks so like Ace's own. Ace himself, there wasn't a man in the crew who didn't love the freckled idiot and want to help him. And they'd failed that. And Pops. Without their captain, Marco wasn't sure how many of them even wanted to go on.

But the once first division commander carried on. Because Pops would have been disappointed in him if he didn't. Because Pops would have wanted them all to live. Because Pops believed in them. Believed in them to see the new era and persevere through it. So Marco would do whatever it took to see them there. Jinbei had managed to make sure Ace's kid brother got out alive. It wasn't everything, but it was a lot. Marco liked the kid and he knew full well that Ace loved Luffy more than himself. Even Pops had seen something special in the boy's spunk. Hopefully however much his morale was suffering, his own nakama could help him get through it.

"Marco!" a frantic knock came to the door.

"Eh?" Marco looked up in the glasses from the maps, charts, and books he'd been scanning through. "What now?" he asked in exasperation.

"Brownbeard's attacked Foodvalten," the pirate explained.

Marco wanted to swear. He closed his eyes briefly wishing he could ask Whitebeard what to do. Wishing to anything Whitebeard could give him just one more hint, one piece of advice, but it wouldn't come. Not in this lifetime. The phoenix opened burning blue eyes again, "Leave it," he growled shortly. "Get everyone out that you can." Once, just Whitebeard's name would have been enough. But not anymore. There was too much for Marco to look after and too many chinks in the armor. "The place is a food valley. When he realizes no one's going to grow anything under his thumb he'll starve fast and move on." And if not it would go on the growing list for vengeance.

"You got it boss!" the pirate scurried out.

Marco ran a hand through the spiky strands of blond hair. Fishman Island was the biggest worry. It always had been. It was the thoroughfare of every pirate making his way to the second half of the Grand Line. And with the close proximity to Sabaody, pirates were constantly tempted to kidnap the fishmen and mermaids and sell them into slavery. Especially the kids who were easy prey. With Jinbei's help they might have been able to at least strike up a greater reputation among the fishmen themselves for protecting each other but even that might have just made the price go up and the attempts along with it. Marco gave up with the maps for now. What good were geographic strategies without the people's spirit to back them up? God damn World Government had no idea what a mess they'd made.

It was a gamble. Hoping the Straw-Hat kid would pull through and pull a coup only a D could manage. And Marco desperately wanted to ask Ace if he was insane to do it, but that was just another version of the big thing he couldn't have. And Thatch? What would Thatch say? Hopefully just laugh. Marco could use one right about now. He wandered onto deck to find someone who wasn't working their ass off working on ways to repair the damages around the world.

"Did I ever tell you about the first time Pops found me?" he couldn't quite manage a grin yet, but he had a feeling by the time he finished the story he'd be able to. Pops had always loved reminiscing stories about the past and it made Marco feel better to think on them fondly. It's what Pops would have wanted and if Marco couldn't get what he wanted himself right now, he could at least carry through on what Pops would have liked him to.
