alive?

Dec 30, 2008 00:22

I decided to come out of my LJ hole tonight, for some reason. I found myself scrolling through friends' posts and reading a few peoples' end of the year surveys. I was inspired.

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
There are quite a few things I could put in here, but I'll keep it simple. One bad, one good.
- got hit by a bus (really was done TO me, but whatever)
- moved into my apartment with Eve :D

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I did, for a while. My unofficial resolution was to start running again, which I did... until I couldn't anymore. I'm hoping to start again in the next month or two, once my ankle is cool with it. I do have a resolution for 2009, and it's to stop getting overstressed about silly things like traffic.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.

5. What countries did you visit?
The UK (England/Wales), Canada, Portugal

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
More clips for future job apps and for my own sanity.

7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
1/11: Back to the UK. :D
3/8: The day my Subaru of love made it through a monster storm and into Toronto. Like a champ.
7/31: Portugal for the first time in 17 years.
9/16: Me, bus, ouch.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Discovering that I'm what psychologists call resilient. Pretty awesome thing to discover, actually. (In humanistic psychology, resilience refers to an individual's capacity to thrive and fulfill potential despite or perhaps even because of such stressors. )

9. What was your biggest failure?
Can I have two? Getting myself too involved in futile situations and losing my patience much more often.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Bruised bone, bursitis, deep muscle bruising, but I made it out really lucky.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Probably my iPhone. That thing was invaluable when I was practically immobile.

12. Where did most of your money go?
Probably traveling for the first 3/4 of the year, now I'd say rent/apartment expenses.

13. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Going places. And feeling special. :)

14. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder - probably about the same, all things considered
b) thinner or fatter - the same, again, though I was quite wonderfully fit when I was running, so I've regressed
c) richer or poorer - poorer

15. What do you wish you'd done more of?
writing

16. What do you wish you'd done less of?
losing my patience

17. How will you be spending Christmas?
spent it with family and germs

18. Did you fall in love in 2008?
only with places

19. How many one-night stands?
I'd say none. Interesting incidents, but no one-night stands.

20. What was your favorite TV program?
I actually barely watched TV this year, but I've been into the new season of Top Chef. I've also adopted two Brit shows; Gavin & Stacey and Mock The Week, but both within the past 2-3 months.

21. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
nope, can't say I do

22. What was the best book you read?
That's another thing I should have done more of. I did read some pretty good books, but of course now I can't pick a favorite.

23. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Hm. I started listening to a TON of new bands in 2008. My new faves are probably the Black Keys, The Presets and MGMT. Quite possibly a few others that are slipping my mind. This doesn't include the faves I picked up at the end of '07.

24. What did you want and get?
Heh. No comment.

25. What did you want and not get?
my trip to Austin for Austin City Limits

26. What was your favorite film of this year?
Gooood question. Maybe The Dark Knight? I have a few more 2008 movies I'd like to see first.

27. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
turned 24 and spent it enjoying a somewhat debaucherous weekend in the Poconos

28. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
not getting hit by a bus

29. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Tip-toeing closer to Brooklyn indie hipster but too self-conscious to jump in.

30. What kept you sane?
friends, family, music, my phone (I wish I was kidding)

31. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
There's this HOT French model I've been lusting after, but other than him? I can't say I've found anyone new to unabashedly stare at photos of.

32. What political issue stirred you the most?
Definitely Prop 8. What bullshit.

33. Who did you miss?
Probably no one for the entire year, but definitely miss seeing my good friends when we're on hiatuses.

34. Who was the best new person you met?
I can think of one who had a surprising influence on me, and one who just plain makes me smile.

35. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
I really am resilient, and I'm surprisingly pretty good at being optimistic. I also can get really stressed out by lots of little things piling up, much more so than any one huge thing.

36. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"The middle of adventure, such a perfect place to start" - Arctic Monkeys, 505
