I haven’t written much lately because I’ve been tired, sick, bogged down with homework, and generally haven’t had much to say, anyway. But now I have a question

The Dark Ages

When I was at elementary (primary) school we had the traditional square-dancing as a fine arts/PE component. At high school, however, we had the advantage of a competitive ballroom dancer math teacher who offered dancing lessons to the grade 11 and 12 students. As I was a bit of an outcast at that point I didn't attend (to my great regret later) but at our graduation night we had a formal dance (the school swing band played the music for it) complete with dance cards and dancing with your dad. It was the only time in my life that I have danced with my dad - he gave me the choice between grad and my wedding and I chose grad and that was that. Doug and I love to dance and make an effort to attend events where there might be a dance floor and at least a few songs to waltz to. I also love to polka - don't know where that came from. Muff

I said I love to polka, not that I was good at it. I'm not sure why, but Canadian weddings with dances seem to always include at least one polka (and the 'chicken dance' but I am at a loss to explain that.) One learns to at least get by in polka self-defence.

"Polka self-defence" Oh I like that. :)
It's not just weddings, that chicken dance is taking over the world. That and the Hokey Pokey. They're not even particularily good songs, I think it's just that we're happy to have some songs that everyone knows the moves to. Look at the macerena, that was a horrible song, but I bet you could still remember how it goes! ^.^

Oooooh I wish you hadn't mentioned the "m" word. I hate that song/dance/thing! And now it will be swirling around in my mind all day - nasty mind cooties! I will have to find something else to displace it quickly!
