Save Kewalo Basin Park!

Nov 15, 2005 16:04

Hey everyone. Did you know Kewalo Basin Harbor and Park(36.5 acres) will be developed into a retail and restaurant area with three luxury twenty-story condiminiums, a parking structure, privatizing the harbor (most likely for the condo residents) and 45 ft high pedestrian bridge with a large "sail like structure" (like the one @ Ward Theatres) but only bigger? I had no idea until I went to T & C yesterday and saw a sign-up sheet for Friends of Kewalo Basin Park Association with some flyers. I just signed up to help. Honestly I've never been to Kewalo's but just the thought of adding all of these unnecessary businesses and condos in this area makes me really upset. As if we don't already need any more stores and fancy restaurants and MORE CONDOS. What is happening to Hawaii? :( This is already not the Hawaii I grew up in. What about our keikis? What's next, the commercialization of Ewa Beach? Oh wait, that just happened. Okay, enough ranting. Sign up if you want to. No membership fees or donations.

xoxo,
Mish

Alexander and Baldwin's plans (from the flyer):

*The 45 fit high pedestrian bridge will span the channel between Kewalos and John Dominis side. Some boats will not be able to go under.
*Entire National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) site will anchor the Kewalo side of the bridge with the sail-like structure
*Net House will become a high-end restaurant
*Old Dolphin Lab site will become a casual dining restaurant
*Lunch wagon site will become an area for retail shops
*Privitize of the Harbor
*Ewa side of the Channel will have 3 luxury rental high-rise towers (20 stories each) with a Ward Warehouse-like retail/dining area from Fisherman's Wharf to John Dominis
