She looked at him out of the corner of her eye, wondering if it was such an instant attraction thing why she didn’t feel the same way now, had something more happened? Had she just changed her mind? Had she been kidding herself? She watched him for a moment, “What is her name?” she asked, knowing that look on his face. He was in love and didn’t realize it.

She wasn’t sure that talking about her and Charlie was the best thing, it just made her feel worse, made her feel like the biggest bitch on the face of the planet that she couldn’t remember this great love. Had it really been that great? Or had they just given into lust and gone into things over their head. She didn’t know. It wasn’t like talking about it would figure it out. She watched him as they walked, he had always been one of the best guys at school. He’d been a semi-decent keeper when he got his self-confidence up, but other then that, they’d never been an item or anything other then teammates.

Ron laughed and took his hands out of his pockets, and scratched at the back of his head, "Is it that obvious? It's crazy. Really crazy, I've been in love with Hermione forever; I can't actually remember a time when I wasn't worried about that girl or thinking about her, and now, since she dumped me, its just all gone. "

He looked over at Katie, kind of surprised at the analogy that just appeared to him, "It must be like what you and Charlie are going through. Its just gone. I can say her name, Hermione, and there is nothing. Maybe a tiny small ping of an ache, but that's it. And then when I say HER name..."

He paused and whispered her name, "Lavender," and he felt goose bumps all over and looked at Katie with the biggest grin on his face. He couldn't speak, he was absolutely tickled and his nerves were jangling. He exhaled loudly, realizig he had been holding his breath as they walked along.

The chuckle started deep in his chest, and he couldn't help but start laughing quietly, "I guess I have it pretty bad. Lavender. I think I am falling in love with Lavender Brown. After four years, I have found my heart with Lavender."

He looked at Katie, and felt a moment of guilt at her circumstances, that were completely opposite to his.

“It is a little like me and Charlie…. I say his name and I just…. I don’t feel anything but guilt because I can’t be the person that he wants me to be.” She sighed, giving him a small smile, “I’m glad that you’ve found someone, Ron. I was never a huge fan of Hermione’s in school. She always grated on me as a know it all.” She said, Con walking with them.

It was a frustration, a guilt. “I just don’t know if I can do this.” She said, quietly, “I don’t know if I can live with him and expect everything to come flooding back, to sleep in the same bed with him and know that the only thing I remember is having sex with him and a couple nice dates.”

“My mother says I should give it more time, but she doesn’t know how it makes me feel.”

Ron watched her, and felt terrible, and replied, "Yeah, well, I can sort of understand, maybe. Like if I had to climb into bed with Hermione, say right this moment. I wouldn't want her to think I was looking at her bits. It would be especially hard if she expected me to be all lovey dovery and I wasn't feeling it."

He paused, and said with all sincerity, "All though, you know, I would manage somehow to make her happy. We men are just horn dogs when it comes to that. Woman plus bed, and I would be bound and determined to please anyone!"

He looked at her, "I''m being honest here! You're still my sister-in-law and technically family, so I can say just about anything to you."

He smiled slightly at the idea, but then let his humor slip as he got serious, "I don't know about time. It may not help. Sometimes it seems to be more of a wedge. I hate to see you both give up. I am not sure what Charlie is feeling right now. Since the accident, he hasn't talked to me much. You should sit down and lay it all out. He deserves to know. You deserve to set things straight. Your mom is wrong. I don't know that any more time is going to help that if you two aren't talking about things."

He felt bad; now he didn' t care. He slipped his arm around her shoulder as they strolled along.

“Oh we’ve talked, we’ve looked at pictures, he’s explained so many things and they just don’t come back at all. I’ve…” she trailed, looking at him for a long moment, “I’ve asked him that we not be intimate until I remember… I don’t want to lead him on if this isn’t going to work. I don’t want to get his hopes up if I don’t remember.” She said, quietly, the arm around her shoulder felt alright, at least someone was trying to care instead of trying to make her remember.

“I just look at everything in the house, my house, and feel like it was some other woman living my life and I’ve been asleep for the last four months. Rip Van Winkle or whatever.” She sighed, “My mother told me that we were thinking about starting a family and I just can’t see that. I can not see that I would risk getting pregnant when I was flying on a broom.” She sighed.

Ron nodded at her; this was something he had heard about from Charlie, and he could at least add something here concrete.
"When I first found out about the two of you, well, first off Charlie gave me the biggest grief, the git, and you played right along. You both let me squirm about, all a big joke that I didn't know about. But you both talked about working way too hard. That was the whole reason I went to work for Charlie. It was so that you could spend more time together. You both were exhausted. You played pro and then was racing over to coach. And Charlie was working the business and taking care of the dragons. I felt bad for the both of you. I thought it was time for me to help my other brother out, not just the twins. They agreed that Charlie needed my help. And you were sort of talking about letting something go."

I wasn't sure how you were going to do it; I get being addicted to Quidditch, but you seemed ready. You seemed seriously confident in what you were going to do, you did and Charlie did too."

Ron walked beside her, wondering about having kids, and just blurted out, "I want to have kids. I want to have a couple of them. At least a couple. Is that crazy for me to thing about that? I want a house like the Burrow. I want a wife who is always happy to see my mug, and kids who come to meet me at the door. I think I could do the whole thing: stinky nappies, baths, crying, you know, all of it."

He looked at Katie, "If I am this crazy about Lavender, what should I do Katie? Should I do it? Should I make it real? Marry the girl? I could really use some female advice."

She watched him for a long moment. She didn’t know what to tell him. She didn’t know what to think for a long moment. “If you’re in love with her, you tell her and you let her make the choice. You can’t just marry someone that you haven’t been with that long, Ron. You need to take the time to know her. You need to take the time to make sure that she is as sure as you are.” She said, quietly, just having the feeling that in her own life, she wasn’t sure.

He said she was ready to give up her career. Her career was her life, it was her entire identity and it was gone. It was the only identity she knew and now she felt like she didn’t know anymore. It was so frustrating to not know who she was. If she could get back at the game, it might help her. She was just feeling so lost in her own skin right that instant. She was feeling like she was never going to be the same again.

Ron nodded, "Maybe I needed to talk to you more than you needed to talk to me. I dont' want to rush into anything. I want to get to know her; I want to know everything about her. I love her, Katie. I will let her decide. "

At his words to her, his face fell, "I just...Katie, I just dont' feel like I have that much to offer. I want to be able to be a good provider before I ask anyone. I always thought that was so important. I mean, Mom and Dad are great, but they had nothing when they got married and continued that way for a long time. I hate to start things out like that. So, I'm studying to take my NEWTS. I want to get a proper job, with a proper salary, so that I move out from about my brothers' shop. Get a proper place, like Bill's old house; your house has a Burrow like feel to it. "

He brightened for a moment as he thought, "You know, you could really help me. My little flat has no style. No pizazze. Would you....Katie, would you be willing to come over and spruce the place up for me? I want to have Lavender come over. I've offered to cook her dinner. But I got nothing in that place, honestly, nothing! I got a desk and chair, a bed, and a dresser. No couch, no table. Its the studio apartment in the front part of the second floor. The apartment behind me has always been used for storage."

He thought for a minute, and then continued, "I bet the twins would let me connect them, you know, turn them into a bigger place. Would you help me? Do you have anything to work on? I sure could use your help."

He wasn't trying to sound whiney but he didn't really know how to start on his own. It would be excellent to have a bettter place to show Lavender by Wednesday.

“There is more to offer from you then a salary or a home, Ron Weasley.” She said with a small smile, “Even in school, you never had any confidence in yourself. You never believed that you were worth something because you were always put next to Harry and Hermione. Who the hell could compete with the brainchild and the boy-wonder? You are wonderful, Ron, you always were.”

“I remember when your brothers gave me that noseblood nugut and you sat with me until the bleeding stopped in the hospital wing because they had lost the antidote end. You made me laugh even when I was leaking like a faucet.”

He was a wonderful guy, he just didn’t see it in himself. “I…. I am so lost. I don’t have Quidditch, I don’t have anything. I’ve never been good at anything but Quidditch. I wasn’t that good of a student, I’m not that smart, I was just an athlete and now I’ve been told if I play again, I could end up as a cripple, my team nullified my contract for insurance purposes…. So… yes, I can help, but I can’t guarantee how good of a decorater I would be… I mean my flat was always pretty sparse, but flowers are always good to dress up a place and some color….”

Ron blushed; she said some pretty nice things about him, and had remembered some things he never really thought about. They had just been the right thing to do. And her comments about Quidditch truly hit home with him, in his heart.

"Katie, you are just....undecided right now. Let me throw those words right back at you. You are more than your job. We all are, or blimey, look at what a pathetic sod I'd be? Working in a joke shop? Being a bumbling curse breaker? You are more than just the game. You can still fly; You just probably can't play professional. But you have loads of things to offer the team in training, if you want. I am sure your job at the school is secure. Look at this as a new begining. In some ways, you could try out different things. Play around with it. Change your style or be adventuresome and gosh, take a class or a workshop. Volunteer at the orphanage. Read some books. I know there is more to you than the game, Katie. I just know it"

"And I am going to take you up on that help. In fact we are going to go get a bite to eat, and then head over to my place. I want your opinion about what a woman would expect to find in a regular apartment, and then we will make it happen. How does that sound?"

He smiled at her encouragingly, and turned them back in the direction of Hogsmeade. He looked about and was surprised at just how far they had walked. He caught sight of the dog and moved them towards the village.
