Few days were dedicated solely to the three of them anymore, and though mother's day was of course a day when they did things for Narcissa, Lucius thought it was pleasant to enjoy the company of his wife and son for the day.
Lucius prodded his king over in defeat. He'd known it had been foolish to challenge them both to chess. But it had been a long time since he'd played Narcissa, and he stupidly hoped she'd weaken Draco's game. How wrong he had been, their end game had been so perfect as to almost be contrived.
He offered his hand to each of them in turn, though the ever so slight bitterness in defeat made him frown.
"Well done, both of you."
Today he and Draco had selected their midday meal, choosing an over-rich desert they knew would please Narcissa. Though of course it was Mothers day, he was determined that she should do nothing too. After all, without her he wouldn't have his son, and his eyes that would secure her almost anything she wanted that he could give her.
