The two wars, amongst other things, had cultivated in Lucius a skill for putting aside emotion. Fear was not beneficial to logical thought, and neither was anger or hatred. It was true, anger could cause him to act rashly and thoughtlessly, but he persevered in keeping it at bay until his intelligence could guide him. There was no point sitting in his study, brooding over the identity of the letter writer. He refused to allow himself to scan the faces of people he walked past, wondering if he had seen it only moments before. He would continue, as he had always continued.
Yes, it was for the best that he kept to his word. In the light of these events, it may prove even more useful to have this man's services, if indeed he lived up to his recommendation.
Though the meeting was being conducted from Mayfair's home, and doubtlessly the man would be in casual attire, Lucius dressed as for a business meeting. He had paid obsessive attention to detail these past couple of days, controlling that which he could, and ignoring that which he could not. He was sure Narcissa had noticed his rediscovered assertion of 'being the head of the household' and interfering with minute details that had never bothered him in the slightest.
He took a moment to compose himself, straightening his collar and running a hand quickly through the bottom of his blond hair. Since his teenage years Lucius had wondered when someone would invent a form of Magical transport and left one untouched by the wind. There was the Knight Bus, but he didn't care to spend any length of time with the usual clientele.
Lucius tapped at Mayfair's door, taking a moment to look at the property. It could not be described as grand, but it was not entirely without character. Malfoy Manor had been his home from birth, and in comparison many properties seemed claustrophobic. He couldn't imagine living in a place so small, Spinner's End for example, with so many rooms shared. Did they not crave privacy?
