Characters Involved: Remus Lupin and Harry Potter
Severus had left the castle on some errand -- an errand of some importance if the seriousness of his expression had been any indication -- and Remus wasn't sure what time to expect him back. His lover had been anxious and depressed for several weeks, ever since Draco had rescinded his agreement to stand up with him for the bonding. Remus knew Zak's immediate offer to take the younger man's place had helped somewhat. But, nothing was going to remove that stinging blow to Severus' pride and heart.
It had, in fact, begun to eat at Remus that he had yet to hear from Harry on his decision for the same office on Remus' behalf. Both he and Severus had known their union would likely be even less popular than their individual existence. But, it would surely put a pall over the day if neither of the young men they each considered as close as sons were to agree to be there to celebrate their happiness. Harry hadn't refused. But he hadn't agreed either.
He was thinking on it.
And Remus just had to be patient.
At least, that's what he told himself as he wrote the owl and made the arrangements to meet Harry at Finnigan's that afternoon for a late lunch. He wouldn't push Harry for any sort of a commitment. As he settled into a booth at the pub, he promised himself he'd give his friend time to consider it, as much as he needed.
And, he really did want to touch base in general. Remus had missed the more frequent communications he and Harry had once had before both of them got so busy with revisions and lessons.
Still, with the new year, it was time to begin making preparations for the event and he would need to know Harry's decisions soon in order to include him in those preparations. He would never ask Harry to accept Severus as part of his family. But, Harry was a part of Remus' and he couldn't help but wish desperately the two most important people in his life could learn to get along someday.
Raising his hand, he flagged a passing waitress down. A stout was definitely in order while he waited.
