Seamus took the steps up to the apartment two at a time in his rush to hurry back up to check on his wife and baby. He’d seen Caleb and Stella go up on his way out of the kitchen, but he had barely had the chance to greet them as he’d been busy training a new barmaid. He’d taken to heading upstairs whenever he got the chance. He knew he needed to give Char as much help as he could and truth to tell, he couldn’t wait to get his hands on his babe. She was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen and she could do no wrong in his eyes, even when he was stuck changing her dirtiest nappies. He’d not realized that babies could rival the smell of a ripe pasture in the summer heat, but that was his girl: she excelled at everything ( ... )

"Seamus!" Caleb grinned and rose to his feet. "Congratulations," he said, shaking Seamus' hand and patting him on the back. "She's a doll," he agreed, looking down at the baby with a fond smile on his face. "Most beautiful baby on the planet."

Until they had their own of course, but until then, she won most beautiful baby hands down!

"Charlotte's lying down," Caleb informed him, sitting down next to Stella again. "For something so little, she sure can wear a person out," he added, grinning at Constance.

Stella returned Seamus's beaming smile before, like him, turning her attention back to the baby in her arms.

"She is just beautiful, Seamus," Stella nodded, agreeing with Caleb. "And yes, we insisted Charlotte get some rest- but Miss Constance has been perfectly wonderful, haven't you?" Stella cooed, addressing the baby with her question.

As strange as it was to know that Seamus Finnigan- whom she could still recall very clearly as a first-year student- was a parent before she herself was, Stella felt nothing but happiness for the new family. Seamus and Charlotte were wonderful people (all they had done for Caleb was testament to that), and Stella knew they would do an amazing job raising this beautiful girl.

"So how have you been adjusting to fatherhood?" Stella inquired, looking back up at her former student.

Seamus gratefully accepted Caleb and Stella’s congratulations. It was amazing how little he’d felt he’d had to do with bringing this gorgeous babe into the world, and how protective he felt about her now that she was here ( ... )

As 'tired out' as the new father claimed to be, Seamus still looked insanely happy when he was speaking about his daughter. Stella smiled as he spoke, though she shook her head at his inquiry.

"Not a bit," Stella replied, smiling down at Constance again before glancing up at Seamus. "She hasn't worn us out at all. In fact, I just got her back-" her eyes darted over to her fiancé for a moment- "Caleb actually had her rather enthralled for a while! She spit up on him, too, which Charlotte informed us means that she likes him." Stella laughed, recalling the face Caleb had made.

Her nap had revitalized her and she came out of the bedroom. She had changed her shirt and didn't seem as tired as when they had arrived. Constance blew spit bubbles and gnawed on her lower lip as she started to doze. Charlotte came out, sliding her arms around her husband's waist from behind, "Bonjour, mon amour." she mumbled softly, kissing his neck lightly before she slipped over to greet her half-sleepy baby.

"Bonjour, ma petite." she said with a smile, playing with her foot a little, "Did you 'ave fun wit' Stella and Caleb?" she asked, knowing the baby wouldn't answer, but rumor had it that talking to them like they would was good for their brain development.

She chuckled softly, knowing what Stella was thinking. All about that look on Caleb's face, "She stares at 'im like she stares at you, mon amour." she said, glancing at her husband.

Caleb blushed at the easy show of affection between Seamus and Charlotte. It pleased him to see people as happy as he and Stella, and wondered if they looked so blissfully happy to other people as Seamus and Charlotte appeared to be to him.

"She's got good taste, don't you little one?" Caleb said, smiling down at the baby. "She's brilliant you know," he said, looking at Seamus and Charlotte.

Stella knew that she should probably hand Constance back to either Seamus or Charlotte, but found she was loath to do so. She so loved the feeling of having a baby in her arms, and smiled gently down at the beautiful little girl.

"You are brilliant, aren't you?" She addressed the child, her voice gentle and cooing. "And beautiful, too. But I think your Mum and Dad would like you back now," Stella said reluctantly, glancing up at Charlotte and lifting Constance towards her.

Charlotte smiled as she greatfully took the little one back, settling her into the softness of her body. She lightly traced a hand over the little blonde curls as the baby yawned. "It would seem zat you 'ave tired 'er out." she chuckled softly, tracing a finger down the baby's silky soft cheek. "Oui, ma petit. Sleep."

She finally glanced up at the others in the room with that soft smile. It really had brought out so much of her feminine side that there was a child in her arms. She had been feminine before, but now it was sickeningly so.

Char’s arms slipping around him announced her arrival in the most welcome way. He quickly winked at her and slid her underneath one arm so he could gather up his favourite “big girl” and continue his forthright admiration of his favourite “little girl”. He couldn’t imagine being happier or more at peace - especially since Stan seemed to be falling asleep as she lay contentedly in Stella’s arms. Stella and Caleb doted on the lass, so he could hardly fault their good taste, especially as he hoped they’d consent to becoming her godparents ( ... )

She just smiled to Seamus as their little girl settled into her sleepy stage. She leaned back against her husband for a long moment, just watching her settle into that sleepy mode. "I will go put 'er in her bassinet." she said, "You all sit, I will be right back." she said, giving Stella and Caleb the look that said, don't be leaving.

She detangled herself from her husband and took the baby off to the nursury to lay her down. She was a good little sleeper. Seamus could get their guests some tea or drink or something. She hummed softly to the baby as she started to fuss a little before she went back to sleep. She tucked the little soft blanket around the baby and took the monitor back out to the main room.

"So, we 'ave t'ings to talk about now zat she is sleeping." she said with a smile to them both. She moved to sit down on the couch and looked at her friends. She reached over and took Seamus' hand, "We 'ave somet'ing to ask you bot'."

Stella smiled, watching the young family. Had anyone been looking carefully, they probably would have noticed a hint of sadness in her eyes, though- as happy as she was for Seamus and Charlotte, she couldn't help but be a bit jealous as well. After all, Seamus and Charlotte were both nearly a decade younger than she was, and had already started their family.

Stella reassured herself by reaching over to take Caleb's hand, glancing over to smile at him as Charlotte took Constance out of the room.

At Charlotte's return, Stella gave she and Seamus a questioning look.

"Ask away, then," Stella shrugged, not having any idea what they could possibly need to talk to both she and Caleb about.

Caleb's stomach dropped.

Oh Merlin, they're going to ask us to babysit. I'm not ready to babysit, I barely managed to get through nap time without doing something wrong!

Caleb squeezed Stella's hand. "As long as Stella is there, whatever you need," Caleb said, not exactly thinking as he spoke. "I mean, just don't...yeah, go ahead, what did you want to ask?"

Seamus beamed whilst Char decided to keep the baby with them when they asked Stella and Caleb to be her god parents. He snuggled them closer and was about to broach the subject when he caught sight of Caleb’s stunned look. He couldn’t help laughing and made a mental note to be sure to ask Caleb later - out of the ladies’ hearing - what he’d been afraid they might say ( ... )

Stella was fairly sure that she could not have been more surprised had Albus Dumbledore himself walked into the room. She stared at Seamus for a moment before her gaze flicked over to Charlotte as Seamus's words sunk in.

"You want us to-" Stella could feel her eyes welling up with tears even as her mouth was shifting from it's shocked gape to a wide smile. Being asked to be Constance's godparents was a huge honor, and Stella felt touched that the young couple thought she and Caleb would be up to the task. After all Seamus and Charlotte had done for she and Caleb in the past months, and how close they'd all grown, there was no way they could possibly refuse. She quickly glanced over at Caleb, but it seemed he still hadn't quite recovered from the shock of the question, yet.

"I- that is, we-" Stella let out a breath, shaking her head in amazement.

"We'd be honored," she smiled, squeezing Caleb's hand and glancing at him again. "Wouldn't we, love?"

Caleb knew he was gaping like a fish, but he couldn't have been more stunned. That they would want him to be Constance's godfather was an honor that he knew he wasn't deserving of, but he wouldn't say no. As far as he was concerned, he would always look out for Constance, godfather or not, but this...

The pressure of Stella squeezing his hand reminded him that he was supposed to say something. "Yes, of course, yes," he said, though it came out as more of a squeak. "I- blimey, I thought you were going to ask us to babysit," he said, his voice still carrying a hint of shock. "Not that we wouldn't love to babysit, anytime," he added quickly. "I mean, anything you need-."

Stella squeezed his hand again, rather tightly, grounding his racing thoughts. "Yes, we'd love to be her godparents," Caleb said, looking at Constance in wonder.
