There was a small bakery around the corner from Dean's flat that made some of the most amazing brownies he had ever tasted, and he stopped by to pick up a few before heading over to Hannah's for dinner. He'd gone shopping earlier and picked up some vanilla ice cream to go along with the brownies. It wasn't a long trip to the Abbott house, but Dean had put a cooling charm on the ice cream anyway, just to be sure.

He'd left his house a bit early- Hannah had said to be there about 5, but Dean was never one to arrive late. He was having to admit to himself that he was the tiniest bit nervous about this dinner- it wasn't everyday that a girl invited you home, especially when it involved meeting her dad!

Not that he hadn't met friends' parents before- but Hannah was, well... Dean wasn't actually sure what they were at this point. It seemed that every time they actually managed to do something together (like their one 'real' date, or lunch a while ago) something else managed to get in their way, and they wouldn't see each other for ( ... )

Shawn wasn't really watching the show that danced across the telly. He was more interested in Hannah getting back down stairs before her friend arrived. True, she had invited him to join them for dinner. Still, he'd purposely gone out to eat with some friends right after church so he wouldn't be ready for an evening meal. He'd told his daughter that he'd join the two of them for dessert. That way, the young man wouldn't be nervous through his entire meal ( ... )

"Hi - er, thank you, Mr. Abbott," Dean replied when Mr. Abbott had opened the door, somewhat muddled by the unreadable expression on the older man's face. By the time Mr. Abbott returned to the dining room Dean was trying not to look quite so confused, smiling at Hannah's father when he stepped in and told him that Hannah would be down in a moment. He'd barely had time to nod in response before Mr. Abbott slipped away again. Dean wasn't quite sure what to make of this- on the one hand, he was a little relieved that Mr. Abbott wouldn't be eating with them- it would certainly help Dean relax a little. Still, it would have been nice to at least get to introduce himself!

Dean was very relieved, therefore, when Hannah made her way down the stairs. He grinned when she entered, following her to the kitchen after she'd grabbed the brownies and ice cream.

"Hi to you, too," he laughed, once she finally turned back to face him. "Whatever you are making smells amazing!"

Hannah put the ice cream in the freezer and then placed the brownies on the counter beside the pie her father had brought for later. As she looked over the two distiguishly different desserts she couldn't help but think of how different the two men were that had brought them to the house. Likewise, they shared similarities to, at least in Hannah's eyes. Aferall, she hadn't been able to tell either not to bother with dessert as she knew they both liked to feel as if they were contributing to whatever was going on around them ( ... )
