Caleb was surprised at the number of people that had turned out for the protest. He knew most of them were there to protest the Minister in general, but it was still good. Now he just had to work up the nerve to go and join them. The main point of nervousness stemmed from the fact that he was openly wearing his collar. The top buttons of his shirt were undone, leaving the collar exposed for all to see.

Steeling himself, he walked toward the crowd and began wandering around the outskirts of the group. He couldn't stand the idea of being in the middle of all those people. Already, the scents and the noise was almost too much for his senses. He looked at his watch, then up at the sky, judging the position of the sun. Caleb had no intention of staying for too long. He wanted to be locked up in his flat long before the moon rise.

Stella's scent reached him long before he saw her, so when he finally saw her approaching from his right, he smiled. He waved hello, then shoved his hands in his pockets, waiting for her to join him.

Stella was feeling a bit guilty as she apparated near the Ministry's entrance. She remembered the first time she'd ever come to this door- she was 10 years old, still small for her age, holding on to her father's hand as he showed her the building where his new office was located. He didn't often work on Saturdays anymore, but Stella couldn't shake the feeling that he could walk out and see her protesting at the front door of his workplace. She knew for a fact that her brother was inside the building, but he'd been so wrapped up in his work for so long that Stella doubted he'd even notice there was a protest going on outside ( ... )

"Bit overwhelmed," Caleb admitted, clenching his hands in his pockets so he didn't reach out for her. He felt adrift in the sea of people, and he knew if he could only hold her hand it would anchor him.

"I honestly don't know how long I'll be able to stand the sensory overload," he said, looking around him. As empowering and emotionally satisfying it was to finally be doing something other than hiding himself away, it was physically taking its toll.

Merlin, this was torture- being so close to Caleb, but not being able to even hold his hand. It was for their own safety, she knew, but it was still horrible.

"Well, just let me know when you leave- we're going back to your flat, right?" Stella would go with him, make sure he was alright before the moon rose. She was going to actually attempt sleeping when she got back to her flat, but had the feeling that sleep would not come very easily tonight.

"It's good that we're here, though. That you're here. I'm proud of you," she smiled, looking up at him.

Caleb felt a moment of panic when he she mentioned returning with him to his flat. But now wasn't the time to argue about it.

"Thanks," he said, a sheepish smile on his face. "I'm glad you're here. I don't think I could do this without you," he said, letting out the breath he'd been holding. "Just don't go too far out of reach," he reminded her. They may not be able to be public about their relationship, but he wouldn't risk anything happening to her.

"I won't," Stella agreed softly, looking around at the steadily growing group of people, and seeing more than a few familiar faces. "June said that they are all coming- the Spinner's End group, that is," she clarified, as she wasn't sure that he knew who 'June' was. "But I don't see Remus or Severus quite yet."

Considering how his one meeting with Snape went, it was probably best that he keep his distance from them anyway. As it was, he wasn't sure how he would react to more than one werewolf in the vicinity. He was alright around Remus, but Stella hadn't been with him at the time, and he was already feeling possessive and protective around all of these people. He didn't want to do anything stupid that could damage his tenuous friendship with Remus.

And it wouldn't do to make werewolves as a whole look bad because he didn't know how to interact with others of his kind yet. "I don't think it would be a good idea for me to get too close to Remus and his pack," he said, running a hand nervously through his hair. "All these people are making me nervous. I'm just going to stay along the outskirts, but you should go talk with your friends," he said, nodding toward the group at large.

Stella looked at Caleb concernedly- she was worried about him being overwhelmed around all these people. Especially remembering how he'd reacted just to Charlotte's dog last week- perhaps it was best if he stayed away from the pack, at least for today.

"Alright," Stella said, already seeing quite a few people that she knew she should say hello to. "But like I said, come find me when you're ready to go. I want to make sure your wards are all set before I go home, ok?"

He hadn't told Stella about the werewolf specific wards that Remus had helped him put up, but as he had given his word to Remus about them, he didn't mention them now either. "I'll let you know," he told her, attempting to smile. "Go on, I'll be fine."

There was that dubious 'fine' again- she would have to find a dictionary and make sure that both Remus and Caleb actually understood what the word meant.

Stella returned Caleb's smile, winking at him and mouthing the words "Love you" before disappearing into the crowd.
