What: Pro-Wolf rally When: 4 o’clock August 4th Where: The Ministry Characters Involved: Harry Potter, Ginny Weasley, OPEN TO GAME. Rating: PG ( Viva la revolution! )
For once in his life, Ron Weasley was on schedule. Well, technically if one counted his birthday drinking with Harry- this would be twice. In the same week, no less! Ron was beginning to get a little arrogant about his timing these days
( ... )
Medea joined the crowds outside the ministry at 4’oclock precisely. She was dressed in white robes, a bright spot in a crowd of darker colours. Tucked under her arm was her petition to impeach Shingleton and hold new elections for the position of minister for magic. The protest was a show of anger that would speak volumes, but if she could start the petition here, word of mouth would spread. Then she could use the journals to garner even more signatures, and hopefully at the end of the day she would have an impressive list to send into the Wizengamot. She’d ensure it got where it needed to go, she still had friends at the ministry, even there, people were dissatisfied with the current regime.
Still first things first, it was only polite to find the organiser of the protest and ask their permission to address the crowd and promote the petition. She headed towards where the banners were thickest, looking for those in charge.
Neville arrived, remarkably, on time for the rally. He was almost late, but he managed to catch sight of the clock in time to get ready and Apparate nearby to arrive just in time.
He looked around at the people already gathered. The crowd was already so large. Neville wasn't quite sure what to do now. He wasn't used to gatherings in the first place, let alone political protests. Still, he wanted to show his support. The Ministry was going too far. Really, it went too far when they released Bellatrix.
Maybe he'd go find Ginny and see what he could do and he started his search of the crowd for the familiar head of red hair.
Harry had said the protest was starting at 4:00, and so that's when Dean arrived. He'd told Harry that he was coming, and of course Dean would do nearly anything to support his Gryffindor classmates- but he was also here, in large part, because of Mandy Brocklehurst. Dean clearly recalled the day Professor Lupin had walked into Jackson, Bingley, and Drake, and Dean had volunteered to assist on the effort to get Mandy and Zak off of the Registry. He'd spent the night of Mandy's disappearance going between the office and Spinner's End to do anything he could to help find her, and had been present at her execution - he was not about to miss a protest against that very event.
Glancing over the already growing crowd, Dean spotted a familiar face, though it was one he hadn't seen in several years.
"Neville!" He called, trying to get his friend's attention as he worked his way through the crowd to greet him.
Neville paused as he heard his name, looking towards it. He grinned and waved. "Hey Dean! Great to see you here." He said, trying to get through the crowd without bumping into anyone. It was a bit harder than he would have liked, but he managed it.
"A lot of people are here already." He commented, looking around when he reached Dean. "It's great. Ginny and Harry have to be excited, don't you think?"
"Great to see you too, mate!" Despite the serious nature of the event, Dean couldn't help a smile from crossing his face as he greeted Neville- yet another friend that he hadn't seen since the train ride back from Hogwarts at the end of 7th Year- an eternity ago.
"It is great," Dean agreed, nodding and following Neville's gaze over the crowd. "Long past due I'm afraid, though. I wish this crowd had been here before they murdered Mandy, instead of after." His smile faded at this, still angry at the Ministry for what he saw, in no uncertain terms, as the murder of an innocent girl.
Neville's smile faded at the reminder of the incident that caused this rally. No trial. No investigation. Just conviction and execution. How far would the Ministry go? The registry. The release of Bellatrix. The death of an innocent girl.
It was fifth year all over again. They were so scared of what might happen, they were making all the wrong decisions. They were becoming corrupt, in fact. It was just wrong.
Neville looked at Dean and nodded. "Yeah." He said. "I'd like to do something other than just stand here. I feel kind of useless." He admitted sheepishly.
Dean nodded in return as they started working their way towards the front of the crowd to where Harry and Ginny stood, Ginny's distinctive hair providing a bit of a beacon as to their position.
"So where on earth have you been hiding, Neville?" Dean asked as they walked, turning to look at his fellow Gryffindor. "I mean, I've been working like crazy too, but I can't believe I haven't run into you before this."
"Well, I was never really...good at big social gatherings." Neville said. "Though, for the past couple of months I've been working in the Greenhouse at Saint Mungo's constantly. Epidemic after epidemic kept hitting, so I really couldn't do much of anything except for harvest plants for medicines." He said, trying to keep Harry and Ginny in sight through the crowd.
He glanced at Dean. "Where do you work?" He asked.
Dean grinned at Neville's response- out of all of their classmates, Neville was definitely the shy one. Dean had been thinking it was a bit odd that he'd never run into Neville when he was in Diagon Alley, but it sounded like Neville had been cooped up in St. Mungo's for a while.
"Legal Assistant at Jackson, Bingley, and Drake," Dean said, a trace of pride in his voice. The firm was well known, and Dean knew how lucky he had been to be accepted there. "Been there since February- I'm attempting to become a solicitor, if you can believe that," he laughed.
"Wow." Neville said. "Well, that's a good job to have. A good lawyer with some sense of justice would be better then the people who seem to be running the show lately." He said. Dean really was a good guy. He'd see things beyond just money then whoever it was that got people to believe certain people should be released for 'insanity' and not being responsible for their actions.
"Thanks mate," Dean smiled. "I don't think I'll be heading up the ministry anytime soon- I'll be studying and working for quite a few years before I can even think about taking my exams." Really, it was sort of like being back in school, except with a LOT more work.
Really, Dean wasn't ever sure he'd be up for 'running the show' as Neville said. Dean had found that he enjoyed working with people, being able to take on cases for individuals and helping them to find justice. His involvement with Mandy and the rest of the pack at Spinner's End had really driven this idea home, even though justice had definitely not been done in that case.
"Yeah, I can't say my interactions with the Ministry have been all that positive lately," Dean mused, thinking of his interactions with the WCU.
"Well, reforms take a while too." Neville said, a bit embarrassed for not thinking about that. "I'm sure you'll do find. You were always dedicated." He said, trying to sound supportive.
Neville looked towards the front of the crowd. "I don't think many good people have had a good interaction with the Ministry lately." He said.
Dean appreciated his friend's support, and nodded in thanks at Neville's encouraging words.
"I think you are absolutely right about that, Nev," Dean laughed, looking at the rapidly swelling crowd of people. "That, or membership in Harry's fan club has kept going up," he joked.
Neville held back a chuckle, suppressing any memories of a certain prophecy. "Well, then they should be easy to convince to support the cause." He said. "There has to be some advantages to being famous.
Growing up in the Muggle world, Dean hadn't quite understood the 'celebrity' that surrounded Harry Potter when they'd all first arrived at Hogwarts. Seamus had filled him in quickly enough, but for a long time Dean still had trouble at seeing his friend as anything else- he was Harry, best mates with Ron and Hermione, and an all-around good bloke.
After several years, though, Dean did admire him more- not for the insane 'news' that always seemed to follow Harry, but for the things he'd done, especially after joining the D.A. and learning about it firsthand.
It was still strange to think, though, that the messy-haired kid he'd met at age 11 was the 'Savior' of the wizarding world.
"I'm all for Harry using his fame to support a good cause- Merlin knows someone needed to speak out!"
