Date: Monday, 11 June, 2001 Time: late evening Location: Hogwarts Characters Involved:Remus Lupin and Stella Sinistra, maybe others, ping one of us if you'd like to join. :-) Rating: PGish I should think
Ever since the Prophet article on Thursday morning, Stella had been more or less functioning in a state of shock. The accusations against Remus and the rest of the "pack" were awful enough, but Mandy's death had been just horrific. Stella had done what she could, both to help Remus, Severus, and Minerva, but also just to keep herself busy. She had decided that the best thing to do was to help make sure that Severus's and Remus's classes were covered, and to make sure that Gryffindor house was still running smoothly with their Head of House out of the castle. She hadn't been able to bring herself to go to Spinner's End, because she just didn't know what to say
( ... )
Remus heard her soft footsteps on the stairs before he heard her voice in the doorway of the tower. Mustering a ghost of his usual warm smile, he shifted his perch on the tower wall so he could see her without jeopardizing his own life. He wished he could have Mandy with him again, but that was not the way he would have chosen
( ... )
Stella returned Remus's half-smile with a kind one of her own, and walked towards the tower wall where he was perched.
"Oh, I don't have classes for a few hours yet. And some company would be nice." When she reached the wall, Stella easily hopped up on a low section that was next to where Remus sat, with the grace of someone who'd done it a million times before. She reached over and took one of Remus's hands in her own, hoping that the gesture would speak more clearly than the words she was about to say.
"Thank you, Stella." Squeezing her hand gently, he continued to hold it loosely for a moment.
But his eyes returned to staring out at the sunset where it was still sliding slowing into the horizon. Partly, it was easier to talk about if he wasn't looking into someone's sympathetic eyes. Yet, partly it was also easier to pretend he was dealing with it all if he hid his eyes, which tended to give away his emotions to those who really knew him.
"It doesn't quite seem real, yet. A part of me still expects to be able to pop into the house for lunch and find her there, chatting quietly with Zak over a plate of biscuits in the kitchen."

"I'm so sorry, Remus."
