Delight, Disappointments and Clean Sweeps on the Pitch!
By “Pitch Malbum”

Minister of Magic Rudiger Shingleton enjoyed performing one of the most coveted duties of his position this week by opening the British and Irish League play for the 2001 season this past Monday. In announcing the opening at Exmoor Pitch, Minister Shingleton honoured the 2000 League Champions, the Montrose Magpies, continuing a long and illustrious tradition for both the League and the Minister of Magic. Unfortunately, the honour was not a lucky one for the Magpies who lost all three of their opening week games to the Pride of Portree in one of the week’s THREE Clean Sweeps! The Pride were formidable in their defense, with keeper Meaghan McCormack coming into her own. Loyal fans of the Pride will remember that Miss McCormack’s mother, Catrionia McCormack was the most famous Chaser for the Pride and team Captain in the 1960’s. Miss Meaghan McCormack has been voted team Captain for the Pride for the 2001 season. Pride Seeker Darius Payton Parker began his fourth season with the Pride with a stunning display of broom aerobatics as he captured the snitch in all three opening games.

The Holyhead Harpies got off to a marvelous start to the season, making a Clean Sweep of the Falmouth Falcons and sending the Harpies to the top of the Standings. Chasers Beverly Boutwell and Katie Bell have clearly been working on their timing and accuracy over Spring Training exhibiting breath-taking results for the banner opening crowds at QWC. The third Clean Sweep of this extraordinary Opening week of play belongs to the Kenmare Kestrals who sent the Chudley Cannons packing to the bottom of the standings out at Yorkshire Pitch this week.

Pitch’s Picks: Holyhead Harpies meet Puddlemere United at Ellis. The Kenmare Kestrals meet the Falmouth Falcons at Bodmin. The Pride has their "by" next week.
