Mr Potter,

If you have not already been contacted by the Minister for Magic, the pompous windbag is trying to have some sort of to-do over the Anniversary of the end of the war.

I have, reluctantly, agreed to participate at Hogwarts for the following weekend. After consultation with Flitwick, we have decided to have a dinner and dance in the evening, tickets for which will be sold on an at-will donation basis to go to Hogwarts general fund to help us maintain financial independence from the Ministry.

Why I am contacting you now, specifically, is that I would like you to consider joining with our Quidditch Coaches for a Quidditch Exhibition of some sort - to be decided by you lot, I have no real preference. Tickets to this event will go to a group of individuals about whom I have only recently become aware.

As you know, Hogwarts has funds available for the financially impoverished in order to allow them to attend school. Naturally, due to the war, these funds are quite depleted. Alarmingly, I have recently learnt that the need for this fund is increasing just as its availability is dangerously low. As might be imagined, there were many children who were orphaned during the war. In a community as small as ours, many of these children were quickly taken in by other family and even good friends.

I am sorry to say that even in the case of very small children, prejudice is rampant in our society. There is a substantial group of children whose parents were Death Eaters, who have proved to be almost completely unadoptable. Whether people are afraid that lingering Death Eaters 'out there' would somehow retaliate against them if they adopted these children, or whether they somehow believe that parental choices are somehow hereditary is unknown. But these children are quite destitute, and without additional income into our charity accounts, Hogwarts will not be able to support them all in their future education.

So. Ticket-proceeds from the Quidditch event will go half to provide for the future education of these children, and half to help fund their present needs of comfort and support.

I know you do not like to 'cash in' on your fame, but we can none of us deny that the presence of Harry Potter at such an event would be an enormous 'draw'. You might even consider allowing photo-opportunities or broom-rides, but again, I will leave that to you to decide among the others.

Do let me know if you are willing to participate. At this time I have not yet spoken with my Quidditch staff about it, as I suspect the plans will be materially different depending on whether or not you are involved.

Sincerely,
M. McGonagall.
