The week had not started out any better than the one prior.
Only, somehow, Remus didn't think it would all be cleared up with a short little jaunt to Diagon Alley, this time.
The Ministry's latest folly had frightened him badly. After his
bout of hopelessness immediately after, he'd hit on angry, furious more likely. Now, that anger was tempered by fear for those in his charge, or whom he considered in his charge, -- the pack, Rhia and her pack, Bill and Fleur. He wasn't sure which was more likely to choke him, the fear or the anger. In either case, being left alone to brood was not a good option.
And yet, he had been strangely left alone for much of the last couple days. Other than briefly at meals and a short journal exchange, he'd not seen much of Severus at all. Which was fine. They weren't joined at the hip permanently or anything and Remus was not going to turn into some clingy woman just because he "had a man" or some such. But, even before they'd discovered their shared attractions, it had been Severus Remus felt most comfortable going to when he needed support and reassurance over the last nine months.
Not that he didn't miss the clandestine snogs and stolen moments spent pressed against a wall and thoroughly kissed until neither of them could breathe, or vise versa. But, strong as his physical attraction to the other man was, Remus knew himself well enough to know it wouldn't be that strong without something of an emotional foundation and Severus Snape had been his primary support practically since the day the pack moved in.
A support he was badly in need of and suspected Severus might be as well.
At least, he couldn't imagine, as he made his way down to the dungeons, that Severus was any more pleased with these developments than he was.
Most people generally found the lower levels of the castle to be cold, even in the warmer months. But, Remus welcomed the slight chill to the air as he walked down the last bit of corridor. He'd left his robes behind in his office. He was not on rounds that evening and really, the simple blue jumper and grey slacks would be warm enough. The small amount of cold barely calmed the tension coiling through him.
He supposed he could have simply flooed down, he thought as he knocked lightly upon the door to Severus' quarters. But, that only seemed right in emergencies. Besides, this way, if Severus wanted to be alone, he'd feel less obligated to let Remus in if Remus wasn't already standing in the middle of his sitting room.
