Perry had grimaced to realize that he'd been sitting in The Leaky Cauldron for almost three hours. Three unbearable hours, because he wasn't tucked into a dimly lit, hidden corner as was his usual preference. No, he was as close to the entrance as he could manage, and that meant a lot of foot traffic. That meant a lot of noise, a lot of shifting smells and sights in and out the door. His keen lycanthropic senses still lingered, which was the only reason he could bear them at all. He took in every odor and his mind separated them, processed them as easily as his eyes did color.
But there was still no indication of the perfume he was waiting for. Which meant, he would wait longer.
Grudgingly, albeit. He'd already missed two full days of work, running around Hogsmeade and then Diagon Alley, trying to track down the person who wrote those letters to Wood. And then an unpleasant side effect of fatigue from Snape's endurance potion had put him out of commission for most of Monday. His body was sore and slightly sluggish from insufficient rest. This wasn't even his kid; he didn't even like kids. He was only doing this because Remus, Snape and June were so involved.
And because, during the course of the search, his curiosity had been piqued. Perry had thought the mission a lost cause until he'd happened upon some busybody at Hogsmeade who had spied fans of Wood stalking his cottage (he wondered if even Oliver knew about that)? This led to more asking around-though awkwardly-which eventually led to Diagon Alley... and The Leaky Cauldron.
He'd finally caught the scent on another circuit through the Alley late Tuesday afternoon. But it was faint, and the sun was setting, so he had not had time to investigate. Still, he had a possible location, and there was nothing left to do but wait and see how lucky he was.
