Date: Wednesday, October 11, 2000 Time: About 6pm Location: The Blackpool Tower Ballrooms, Blackpool Characters Involved: OPEN TO ALL (Pansy's such an attention whore) Rating: PG-13ish
While Roger had only listened to the speech half-hearted - people blowing their one trumpets and complementing themselves were really not of his interest, he’d mostly shown up for all the people he had a chance to meet there - and smiled amusedly at Parvati trying to get a better view, the bang had certainly caught his full attention, as did the voice he didn’t recognize.
Quirking an eyebrow, he looked around and pulled his arm from Parvati, only to instinctively lock his arm securely around her waist before reaching for one of the confetti-like pieces of paper flying around. He grabbed the first one in reach, the leaflets already covering the floor and people looking around curiously, and read the first paragraph, before looking quizzical in Pansy’s direction. This was most certainly nothing she had had planned!
He skimmed the rest of the paper, then frowned visibly upon finishing it, not even trying to hide his dismay. That was, until he put up a worried expression and looked over to his date, who looked rather helpless. “Parvati, what’s all this about?” He asked lowly, raising his eyebrows.
"I don't know!" she said, confused. She didn't register that Roger had his arm around her. Any other time she'd be just dying inside that some cute guy was holding her close, but her mind was on other things at the moment. She turned her attention to the rest of the group she was with.
"Did you read it?" she asked. "Who do you think that was?"
Roger stood on his tip-toes now as well to make out the others, seeing how there was sudden motion in the ground; everyone was either picking up some of those leaflets, reading those or, like them, trying to find their companions in the sudden upheaval. He just hoped he wouldn't lose Parvati as well, or else he'd be completely alone in a, in his opinion, none-too-welcoming environment.
Just as Seamus and Hannah reached Roger and Parvati, he spotted Neville, Lavender and Padma leaving by one of the rear doors. There was no way they would be able to meet up and get out of here before the Ministry of Magic came to detain everyone.
“Parvati, lass. Roger, mate,” He nodded and released Hannah for a minute, running his hand through his hair in frustration. He still had his wand out and ready in his right hand. It was probably not necessary as there did not look to be any violence about, but he was a bit skittish about any unusual activity since the attack on The Leaky, and this definitely qualified as unusual.
“Let’s get out of here, mates.” He took Hannah’s hand again, urging Roger and Parvati to join them. “Aye, there’s no use in staying with this lot. Neville just took Padma and Lavender out the back doors, so let’s be off then.” He gestured towards the back with his wand, but you couldn’t see Neville, Lavender or Padma anymore. “The Leaky’s not officially open ‘til tomorrow, then mates, but this Seamus will get us a drink there if you’ve a mind to, so let’s apparate to Diagon Alley and be done with this place.”
His own twenty-first birthday was coming up fast, but after this fiasco, he was determined to celebrate it as quietly as possible.
He led the way out the nearest doorway and then apparated to the apparition point in Diagon Alley nearest The Leaky Cauldron.
"Seamus," Parvati said, relieved to see another friendly face. But his normally cheery disposition was missing and his smiling face was creased with worry. "Hannah."
Seamus seemed in a hurry to leave, and although Parvati didn't feel any eminent danger, it was probably a better idea to go back to the Leaky with her friends than stay here, especially if anything else were to happen.
"We should go with them," she said to Roger. "We'll go to the Leaky and have a drink, then." She released herself from him and took his hand instead, following the direction that Seamus had gone off too.
Hannah had stayed close to Seamus as they pushed through the crowd. She too noticed Neville leading Padma and Lavender out the nearest exit. It wasn't but a moment later that the two of them were standing with Parvati and Roger.
"I'm in agreement," Hannah finally spoke more than ready to be rid of their current surroundings. She wasn't sure if she'd have a drink, she was simply glad to hear that they were leaving.
Placing her mind inside Diagon Alley, she dropped Seamus's hand. "See you all there," she then walked off to the most open place she could find and made the turn that would allow her body to transfer itself. It wouldn't do to have tried to leave from the spot they'd been in as someone bumping into her could have had dire consequences for both of them.
Roger nodded first to Hannah and Seamus as they arrived, then nodded again a little more firmly. "You're right, let's get out of here!" He agreed, following Seamus and Hannah quickly alongside Parvati. The least thing Roger wanted was to be actually around once real turmoil started around!
And to have a drink with them actually sounded quite nice and calming idea, he had to agree. "Well, to the Leaky, it is, then." Roger smiled at Parvati, before letting go off her hand so he could apparate more easily.
Parvati gave Roger a little wave before he turned on the spot and was gone. She glanced behind her once more, back into the ballroom. It seemed several people had the same idea and were heading toward the doors. She was thankful that Padma and Lavender had already gone to safety.
Anxious to see them all and be in a safer place, Parvati Disapparated with a pop.
