None of the four of them were really in any condition to be Apparating, so June had been thankful when Bingley arranged for a return Portkey home. They reentered the house in silence, each lost in his or her own thoughts. Zak retreated straight to his room, to no one's surprise; it was their youngest packmate's usual response to trauma. June was the opposite; after all that time in the little interrogation chamber she wouldn't have closed herself away again for love or money. She felt far more inclined to walk right back out the front door and keep walking until she found a park or someplace wide open and clean ( ... )

It was enough that he kept on his feet and presented himself as strong and steady, Perry decided. But if he tried to talk, or even look at the rest, he wasn't sure if he could keep his composure. So, when they finally reached Spinner's End, he was set to head for his room ( ... )

She wanted to thank him, but wasn't sure how well it would be received. And while usually she would have said it anyway, and let him grumble about it if he chose... she just wasn't feeling very certain right now. Of anything. His head was still plagued by dizziness and the pain that came with it, so much so that he hardly noticed the unpleasant effects of Snape's Veritaserum antidote. It all sort of ran together for him and he wanted to put his head down and sleep right there. If only it wasn't so fecking bright in here.

Perry's gaze settled on June, and he found enough coherence to watch her closely. He remembered how roughly they had grabbed her when she'd first opened the door. She looked okay, and her stance and gait didn't seem too affected. They wouldn't have been too violent with her, right?

Of course, this was the Ministry. Who knew what they would or wouldn't do?

Perry's stare fell upon the potions June laid out before them. So, she'd got the Veritaserum too... but the headache? Was that a side effect, or something else? He glanced up to her once more, and very much wanted to ask. He was finding it hard to speak.

"I'm all right," in a low voice to hide the new nasally quality. But, now sure that he could speak, he continued. "Zak ( ... )
